Saddam VP's hideout found 07/12/2007 16:07 - (SA)
Baghdad - Security forces stormed a hideout belonging to Izzet al-Douri, the former Iraqi vice president under Saddam Hussein, in a village near Tikrit, 170km north of Baghdad, an Iraqi official said on Friday.
They broke into the hideout based on confirmed intelligence that al-Douri was using it to hold meetings with his aides, said the source who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
The forces did not find al-Douri, but seized documents with information on the al-Qaeda terrorist network and other militias, their activities and the techniques used to conduct their operations in northern Iraq, the source said.
The documents also referred to the groups' objectives which involved attacking Iraqi military and police forces, but contained no reference to US troops.
The source said the police later pursued a car in which al-Dourri was believed to have been travelling, but the driver managed to escape.
They later found the car abandoned, but containing a computer with important information, small arms and other equipment, the source said.
Al-Douri was number five on the 55-wanted people list the US military had announced after the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
I think the only place I’ve ever seen the date written day/month is in the American civilian population.
Just to be on the safe side. I had to check other South African news stories to make sure they did in fact put the day before the month.
When we post here in America we are set in our ways with how we date articles. I am OK with this difference as long as I don’t have to learn the metric system all over again.
Gee, so Sadam’s VP was tied in with Al-Quada?
Who woulda thunk it.
Hmmm. Sounds suspicious to me. Misinformation, anybody?
I might be chased out of a hideout before I could destroy my papers, but If I was going to abandon a computer in car, I’d at least take the hard drive to destroy or hide.
This guy was a big leader with the Iraq insurgency. Makes me wonder what kind of contacts he had with Al Qaeda before we invaded.
I always use D/M/Y
Same here. The US military and every country I've been in outside the U.S. uses the day-month-year format.
Al Douri, the head of the Iraqi intelligence, and the head of the Special Security Apparatus are still on the loose, they hold a lot of secrets about Saddam regime WMD programs and his relations to Al Qaeda and other terrorists.
I’m not expecting the Ron Paul Cult to read this.

What ever was left behind could end up being very interesting.
The only way for him to survive is to claim death and retire in exile
That is the European method: day/month/year. 7/12/07 = 12/07/07 in Americanese.
I think he has been living in Murtha’s basement and just returned to Iraq over the TG holiday...;))
Absolutely impossible. There's no connection between al-Qaeda and Saddam's administration. Harry Reid told me so.
Excuse my language but it must really suck to be a Liberal, Democrat or Ron Paul Cult member at this time in history
Well, what a nice little Christmas Present. Decoding probably not necessary. Just have one of the Iraqis read the data and pin point the names on maps for visits by Santa.
We’re getting closer Izzat Ibrahim.
Make your peace with God while you can!
>B-)
The last time I saw him he had a new job.....
already tried the “claiming death” bit...nobody even considered believing it.
