On Nov 30, FReepers from DC Chapter and beyond, reinforced by allies, held our weekly support the troops event at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WR). We had numerous special guests, including two who told stories reminding us vividly why we have been here for over 2 and 1/2 years through rain, snow, cold, wind, and heat.
(Here is a web page with the background of the event, which is also a FReep of the anti-troop hate group Code Pink and their fellow travelers assembled down the block to continue their vicious taunting of wounded troops. It also describes the intense hatred that the venomous Pinkos have for our troops, except those troops who join Pinko efforts. Some photos from past FReeps will be added to the web page.)
We were honored to have several members of the College Republicans (CRs) of American University (AU) join us. November at WR started with numerous George Washington CRs and ends with CRs of AU. It's always heart-warming to have college students lend their energy to the noble cause of thanking our brave troops.
It was also a pleasure to welcome notpoliticallycorewrecked, all the way from Fresno, CA, home of Free Republic. One of the more enjoyable benefits of our WR FReep is having FReepers from across the country join us.
How about you joining us? Vacation in your nation's capitol, FReep at WR, see the National Christmas Tree, visit the Air and Space Museum, the Vietnam Memorial Wall, and the other monuments.
Our honor roll of those present:
Angelwood, Ben* from MD, Bill from MD*, BufordP, Cindy-true-supporter, Eric* from MD, Fraxinus, George* from MD, Ingrid* from MD, Jessica Taylor, Jimmy Valentine s brother, notpoliticallycorewrecked, pasquale, PleaDeal, PrezUSA222, rongkirby, Tolerance Sucks Rocks, Tom the Redhunter, Toothlessdawg (GOE), trooprally (Mr. & Mrs.), VictoryNY, and BillF. The AU College Republicans included Luke (VP), Eddie, John, and Katie. * = lurker GOE=Gathering of Eagles
As opposed to our 27 patriots, the Pinkos managed to assemble only about 8 America-hating traitors and their well-meaning, but misguided, dupes at their location down the street.
The most important reminder of why we are there, why we FReep occurred near the end of the FReep. A WR patient, David, came up to talk with us as he waited for a cab. We thanked him for his service. After thanking us for coming out to support the troops, he asked if the "bad people" were gone, looking down to where the venomous Pinkos had been shortly before. We confirmed that the Pinkos had left their positions about a block away. He pulled out a Purple Heart and proudly posed for a photograph (below) with it. In response to my question, he told the story of how he came to get it.
Back from the dead to show us his Purple Heart. A true hero. (my photo)
Standing watch on an elevated guard tower in Ramadi, Iraq about six months ago, soldier David was shot in the head. A sniper's bullet penetrated his Kevlar helmet and was lodged in his skull. As other soldiers tried to carry him to safety and medical aid, a second bullet passed through one of his hands.
He was dead, his heart stopped beating for several minutes, but was brought back from the dead by the wonderful doctors and other medical personnel. Having spent about six months at WR, he expects to be released in about two months.
Where does he want to go after WR? He wants to go back to Iraq. He has volunteered to do so and expects that he will be able to do so. I asked him why he wanted to go back. He said that he wanted to rejoin his unit, get back to his job.
How do you thank a guy like this? Well, when his cab did not arrive after he had waited before our FReep ended, he was afraid that he would not get to a comedienne's performance in time to use the ticket that he had. I gave him a ride to the event. I told him that it was the least I could do for someone who took a bullet to protect us, our country, our freedom. He and the rest of our troops, living and dead, can never be fully repaid for their sacrifices for us.
It is soldiers and other troops like David that keep us going to WR. If you come to FReep with us at Walter Reed, you too may meet, and thank, a real hero from among our wounded troops.
Former Marine Ben |
Former Marine Ben at left joined us for the duration of the FReep. He had seen us numerous times outside WR, thought about joining us, but never got around to it. Then, a Pinko inadvertently sealed the deal, got him to join us. At a party, possibly a neighborhood or children's party (he told me, but I forgot), he described meeting one of the Pinkos. Upon finding out that the guy was a former Marine, the grandmotherly Pinko quickly asked him,"did you ever kill anyone." He told her that it was not the proper time or place to discuss that. (I suggested that he should have said "Only people who needed killing. Anyone around here like that [leaning towards her]?")
Pinko bragged about her attendance at the Code Pink Vigil, as they dishonestly call their anti-troop psych op at Walter Reed. Adopting a superior tone, she proudly told him that no one in her family or among her relatives had ever been in the military. The Pinkos say that they support the troops, even as they call our troops "killers." They would group America's finest, our brave troops, with the lowest criminals who murder others for personal gain. Worse, the Pinkos then carry that anti-troop hate speech to just outside the gates of a hospital where wounded troops try to recover. ("Maimed for a Lie" was their early taunting sign when their blood dance started years ago.) At any rate, the Pinko's anti-troop attitude recruited this great veteran to join us. And you would be most welcome to join us as well, helping to peaceably counter Code Pinkos and their leftist allies. |
Discussing the fact that Cong. John Murtha has now admitted that the surge is working, Ben agreed that Murtha might be one of the few ex-Marines.
Thus, the two discussed guests perfectly illustrated the importance of this FReep. First, to thank our wounded troops. Second, to counter the anti-troop hatred, to peaceably "push back" against the vicious Code Pink hate group, led by anti-American Marxist revolutionaries cross-dressing as peaceniks. That is why we FReep.

All of the photos here are those of trooprally (Mrs.) except the first photo is mine and the second was cropped by me. You can see all of Mrs. T's great photos by clicking here.
The night ended, as usual, with us cheering the bus of wounded troops and relatives returning from their night at a fancy restaurant.
If you can't get to D.C. to join us, but would like to do something for the wounded, FReepmail Cindy-True-Supporter or VAFlagwaver for some ideas.
Join us this Friday and you'll be inspired by true heroes, our troops.
Our troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere are out on a limb for us basically all year long. Don't let the Pinkos and their allies saw the branch off. Come join us Friday night per below details from 6:30pm to approx 9:30pm.
As always, the DC Chapter's rules for protesting will be in effect.
Briefly, they are: No violence. No profanity. No racism. No provocations. Obey the law. Treat all law enforcement officers with respect.
Directions to our Walter Reed FReep location from the Takoma metro station
BufordP's Walter Reed FReep archive
PleaDeal's (GunnNutt) blog at Semper Gratus
Please join us. Support the troops and be a part of our peaceful counter-protest to Code Pink.
Don't let the troops think that regular Americans are too busy to spend a few hours standing up for the troops.
Being there with us in spirit is great, but we need people to hold the MOAB (Mother of all banners), other signs, and flags. Maybe you can't come every week, but please make it your patriotic duty to join us at least once in the near future.
Fridays, 6:30 to 9:30 pm Walter Reed Army Medical Center, 7200 Georgia Ave., at Elder St., NW, Washington, DC
On street parking is usually easy to find and there is a parking lot at the corner of Georgia and Elder. Location is about 6 or 7 blocks from Takoma metro station and is walkable, but it is best if you get a ride.
If you want a ride, FReepmail trooprally, preferably with your cell phone number, as far in advance as possible. If you don't make contact sufficiently in advance, it may be too late to coordinate a Metro ride.
DC Chapter ping!
FReepmail me to get on or off the list.
Does FR have any activities, or thoughts about anything to do to help the soldiers suffering from PTSD. My husband, a Korean combat vet’s life was seriously impacted by unhelped PTSD, and I hope that we could do something to help the soldiers and their families from the impact of our latest war. I also have a son who has served in Iraq—1990-1991—and in Afghanistan—2006.
‘Pod,
Did you get the ping at #2?
Heard that pings to the massive DC Chapter ping list missed you? Is it working now?
ANGELWOOD!!!!!!!
Thanks for the eloquent report.
Back from the dead - I thought you were talking about the whole lot better number of FReepers, Lurkers and guests that came out as compared to the previous week, 3 times more.
And the CRs said they'll be out this week also, but dressed a lot warmer. Great bunch of people.
Thanks for posting a “most excellent” thread. I know the time it takes to write AARs.
[Mr] T
Nice report and thanks for giving him that ride.
Taxman Bravo Zulu!
I’m getting the dreaded red x on pics. Had to go to the pic files to see them. Otherwise, great report. Thanks.
Being outside of WR was quite different that our Fresno rally since we are on a busy street corner instead of the main gate of an Army hospital. I was unprepared for the response from the military guys and gals that were walking by the rally. They were constantly offering us bottled water or snacks. Here we are trying to give them just a little emotional support, and yet they were trying to once again give something above and beyond the call of duty. What an amazing group of people.
OUR MILITARY SERVICEMEN AND WOMEN ARE THE BEST !!!!
While in DC, I was stranded by the Viet Nam Memorial after dark, when my tour bus did not come by. Who came to my rescue? Three servicemen from Walter Reed! They insisted that it wasn't safe for me to stay there by myself, so they started to walk me to a Metro bus stop, when one of the tour buses appeared. They stayed with me until I was safely on the tour bus.
Morning bump.
Another answer might be,"Do you ask that of every policeman you ever see, too?"
Hi...You know, over at Blackfive.net, if you click on the November Archives on the right, you will find a wonderful PTSD column. it may or may not help you, but it is a great read.
What an amazing story about David—you’re right; he is a true hero.
Did Code Pink show up, or are they still in Pakistan (hee, hee)?
He said that he wanted to rejoin his unit, get back to his job.
Its good to hear. This attitude will never be understood by our leftists. Its been a common attitude among soldiers for a very long time.
Back during a winter when the moonbats had the Main Gate side of the street, a young soldier and his wife had a very hard time getting a cab. And as they shivered, the moonbats who "care" ignored them.
I asked where they were trying to go and it was the Wheaton Mall. I drove them and came back for the remainder of the FReep.
To Code Pink, Veterans For Peace, Military Families Speak Out and OPEIU Local 2, I say this most sincerely about your phony claims of supporting the troops, ROT IN HELL.
The Pinkos made sure the French Canadian TV crew didn’t get away from the Main Gate of Walter Reed without the Pinkos making the point that we needed to bring our troops home from Iraq because they are the terrorists.
What an amazing guy; took a round to the head, his heart stopped, lived through it, spent a few months at Walter Reed, now wants to go BACK to Iraq.
We certainly have a special breed.
FReepmail me to be added to / deleted from this once-weekly ping list.
