If you're wondering how Gov. Huckabee's hundreds of clemencies compare with neighboring states, get ready for a shocker.
Huckabee leads the pack.
He has issued more commutations and pardons than all of the six neighboring states combined.
Governors seldom reduce sentences in other states and almost never for murderers serving life without parole or for rapists or for habitual drunk drivers, while in Arkansas it's a regular habit with Huckabee.
Other governors use their clemency power only rarely, while Huckabee has made it routine. As we've told you before, he has issued more than 700 pardons and commutations during his eight years in office more than 137 this year alone and more than his three predecessors combined.
Here are the figures for neighboring states since 1996, when Huckabee took office (and keep in mind the population of these states is nearly 20 times ours):
>> Louisiana 213.
>> Mississippi 24.
>> Missouri 79.
>> Oklahoma 178.
>> Tennessee 32.
>> Texas 98 (includes 36 inmates released because they were convicted on drug charges with planted evidence).
Total: 624 vs. Huckabee's 703

Yet another reason why the Liberal Press just loves this compassionate "conservative."
I don't see anything conservative about Huckabee except a desire to make abortion illegal. Is there anything else?
That’s impressive.
We’re #1. We’re #1. Oh wait that’s not a good thing. The Huckster never impressed me as guv. I’m still leaning towards Fred in the presidential field.
I’ve got an idea:
How about aiming at the opposition, rather than engaging in such transparent Republican-on-Republican bashing?
What was it, Ronald Reagan said?
Something about an 11th Commandment...
-
“Thou shalt not speak ill of thy fellow Republicans”
He is bringing too much of his religious beliefs into his role as governor.
How else do you explain all these granting of clemency?
He believes too much in forgiveness and redemption. Screw that for criminals!
I think he is for second amendment rights, but many liberals are supporting that these days.
I remember this story about the clemencies being a big deal, years ago, and I was just thinking it would resurface after the Willie Horton like story just emerged.
I guess gains in the polls = paint a bulls eye on your forehead. They will come out of the wood work now. Some truths, some half truths and some outright lies.
Look at the bright side. Freeing up prison space afforded him more $$ to fight the real wars.....against smoking and twinkies in school.
Huckabee's a Republican?
RINOs ARE the opposition. If you don't fight them in the primary season, then you allow them to define - and taint - conservatism for yet another decade.
He also had the highest execution rate. Go figure.
I’m ready for Duncan Hunter to start to make his move...
Any day.
Will he??
A "conservative" loved by the Liberal media is the opposition and if Reagan were here he'd lead the attack.
Yep.
You mean ALMOST defeated a sitting president. Ford won.
Complete and utter hogwash!
Remember he took on, criticized and defeated a sitting GOP President. =
Remember he took on, criticized and defeated a sitting GOP President - Ford.
For me at this point, Huckabee is starting to look like the best fall-back position from Duncan Hunter. I’m still hoping. Hoping.
Beginning to wonder though.
In my opinion, a pretty good plan B would be, we start right now drafting Chuck Norris for Vice President.
(no, I am not joking!)
It would take democrats two decades, to recover the White House.
If ever.
