My biggest fears may be realized.
I don't post vanities too often, but this issue has kept me up most of the night. The ramifications of the shooting in Omaha have yet to be felt and what follows is something that we all need to consider and prepare to combat.
Earlier this year I made the prediction there would be a mass killing by another troubled teen with an assault weapon on the innocent, in this case an SKS in Omaha. It would occur in a large setting where CCW was not allowed and once again set off the Assault Weapons Ban demand from the anti-gunners. Utah didnt do it, nor did Virginia Tech, because those didnt use assault weapons for their mayhem.
Now, that has come to pass, and in the heartland of America. The Omaha mall has posted signs requiring citizens to enter unarmed, and just about everyone complies, I would guess. In this instance, I would say EVERYONE obeyed this posting.
I, for one, have made numerous statements here on FreeRepublic that I will not ever go unarmed anywhere I go, except onto Federal property, or the courts. In the case of the shooter, his troubled past led him to do the abomination now covered by all the networks.
Nebraska has a Shall-Issue CCW law, which means if you pass the requirements, you get a permit to carry concealed. Once again, the inability of a business, that doesnt understand the dynamics of CCW, post a sign saying NO WEAPONS ALLOWED, and thereby leaving the innocent, and the capable from defending themselves.
The anti-gun people will scream something needs to be done about these weapons. I foresee legislation to increase in the age to 21 for ANY firearm purchase. As it is now, at age 18 you can buy a rifle or shotgun. I also foresee the Democrat controlled congress to bring the dreaded McCarthy Assault Weapons Ban(H.R. 1022) to the table for consideration and passage, and then all hell will break loose in the campaign.
For those of you who do not know what this bill is about check this link. H.R. 1022
The premise is to eliminate just about any weapon that is semi-automatic, be it rifle or shotgun, any magazine of 10 rounds or more, and the controlled transfer of any of the listed assault weapons
Now, why is this my biggest fear?
President George W. Bush promised Congress he would sign this legislation if it ever came to his desk. He said that with a Republican controlled Congress knowing it would never happen, but we are not in 2001, we are in 2007, a national campaign in progress, and a Democrat controlled Congress.
It is now a matter of time when we see this legislation come to pass, gun-shows will become extinct, and prices on 'assault weapons' will skyrocket again. Prepare to be swamped with ads and articles calling for this legilation
What will not happen is the look into the pharmaceuticals that have contributed to the problem of these troubled young men. Prozac , Paxil , and other Anti-Depressants have been incidental in these shootings since Columbine, yet NO ONE has called for more control over the dispensing of these drugs on our young. Its the catch all of the psychiatric care of our children.
This is where we need to bring the discussion, and away from the firearm issue. It will do us all well to learn more about what the drugs dispensed to tour kids will do to them now, and in the future
Prepare yourselves my FRiends, there is a new storm coming.
I don’t know a darned thing about running a mall, but I do know the risks of being a small business owner carrying cash deposits to the bank night deposit. I would refuse to be a sitting duck for any thief who simply watched to see what I drove, where I parked, and what day I made the deposits. If I could not carry for my own protection, and the mall provided no armed protection, I would not rent from them. It’s difficult for me to believe that any small retailer would feel safe in a place like that in this day and age - and I’m not even considering a whacko teenager who wants to shoot up the place and become FAMOUS!
That SN should be a 69C with four numerical digits after it, same as on mine.
The grips on mine eventually swelled [tropics] and split, and were subsequently replaced with Canadian military issue black nylon versions. And mine's been fitted with the stud-andring pistol lanyard loop from an Australian L9A1 service pistol.
Yours also appears a good bet less used than mine, which has over 90,000 rounds logged through it, mostly ball ammo. Mostly.
Of course they do, just as they can as easily come to those who are unprepared and want nothing to do with fighting. But the choice is not always theirs to make.
The difference is that those who are prepared are more likely to survive, and tell the tale:
There I was....
In all honesty gun ownership is pointless today. You are not going to be able to prevent a tyrannical goverment from taking over, period. Why? Well, it’s already happening and will complete in another decade. We are not going to be a democracy much longer, unless we call socialism democracy. That is really why the founding fathers meant in the right to bear arms, to repel what they had just left.
Flame on if it makes you feel better, but gun ownership wont be a right much longer, in order to have gun ownership you must have belief in God, otherwise, gun ownership is meyham and destruction, which is what we are seeing now. It will get far worse as time goes on, frankly, I could care less about gun ownership, it means nothing
I dont carry a gun
to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from being killed.
I dont carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.
I dont carry a gun because Im paranoid. I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.
I dont carry a gun because Im evil. I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.
I dont carry a gun because I hate the government. I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.
I dont carry a gun because Im angry. I carry a gun so that I dont have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.
I dont carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.
I dont carry a gun because Im a cowboy. I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a cowboy.
I dont carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.
I dont carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.
I dont carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.
Police Protection is an oxymoron. Free citizens must protect themselves.
Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.
So was I :-)
Does it help that the SKS was never an “assalt weapon” for purposes of the Fedeal ban? I boght a brand new Russian version during the ban. Bayonet and all.
So officially, this scumbag didn’t use an “assault rifle”.
“he Omaha mall has posted signs requiring citizens to enter unarmed,”
What I’d like to see is a MALL that has this sign:
WARNING : SHOPPERS ARE ARMED. CRIMINALS PROHIBITED UNDER PENALTY OF BEING SHOT.
That is why I’m trying to build an AR15 before its too late, especially in the state I’m in.
Notice the ages and sexes of the victims. Old men, middle aged women, for the most part. Not your classic sheepdog demographics. Some Texas old women, and old men OTOH... well I remember the granny from Arlington who shot the intruder in her home, all while the 911 operator is saying "Tell her not to shoot him" and then "tell her not to shoot him *again*". Or the more recent "Old duffer" verses two much younger thugs in Pasadena, who demonstrated how a 12 gauge evens the odds, or actually tips them to the old dude, provided he's the one with the shotgun.
It's never been about evidence, or logic, it's about FEELINGS, and demagoguery by those who want power and a disarmed populace.
The light comes on. :)
Or it's a "sniper rifle".
Any handgun they want to ban is a Saturday Night Special. Or it's a Hand Cannon. Or it's "unsafe".
