LOWELL, Mass. -- A local dog owner is devastated after her dog was shot and killed.
Michelle Verville was walking her dog, Smokey, in the Lowell-Dracut State Forest last week when she heard a gun shot. Smokey, a 4-year-old Labrador retriever, yelped and Verville noticed that her dog had been shot in the stomach.
"I just stayed there with him and told him that it was ok, and that we loved him and that he was a good dog, and then he passed," Verville said.
it is legal to hunt for deer in State parks from Nov. 26 to Dec. 8.
According to Verville, shortly after Smokey was shot a hunter came out of the woods, where it is legal to hunt for deer in State Parks from Nov. 26 to Dec. 8. The man claimed that he did not shoot the dog and left without trying to help the fatally injured canine.
State Environmental Police are investigating the incident.
This is a Ridgeback:
They are somewhat like Vislas too.
That’d be the ‘perps’.
She accused him of shooting her dog; he left. I would too because it appears she was hysterical:

She dialed 911. Police were on their way. Moments later, a hunter emerged from the thick woods. “I screamed at him. I said, ‘You just killed my dog,’” said Verville. “He said it wasn’t him. There was more than one hunter in the forest, and it could’ve been anybody, he said. Then he left. He didn’t even bother to help.”
“I feel so terrible,” Verville said. “I feel ignorant in a way, because I didn’t know that hunting was allowed in the forest. I used to take Smokey out there all the time. I take him off his leash and let him run around, and I walk the paths. I call him and he comes right back.”
The alternative scenario was worse. ;)
It wouldn't surprise me...if this story was fake.
Lowell is the murder capital of Massachusetts and a hell-hole of illegals, crack heads, and welfare bums — Lowell voted 86-14 for Kerry in 2004. I’m only surprised more such shootings don’t occur.
IF, that dog is a Lab....I'm Jonny Carry.
1.The owner is a veternarian
2.the dog wasn't on a leash by the owners admission
3.she wasn't wearing blaze orange, nor the dog.Again the owner admits this.
4.she didn't know hunting was allowed on the property or that it was hunting season."See above owner info"
5.homes in that area were built well after that land was designated a hunting area.
6.alot of tree hugger, anti hunting crowd lives there.
Do a little search on the name.
You certainly make a lot of assumptions. How do you know she wasn’t screaming in anger.................
“Im only surprised more such shootings dont occur.”
I’ve heard that anti-hunting nuts will dress up in deer costumes and run around the forest up there. (during hunting season)
Hmmm, looks like you were right and I was wrong: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1935567/posts?page=114#114
Appologies.
Tried, I got bupkiss on my search. Must have used the wrong terms or somesuch. Sigh.
Sounds like future Darwin Award winners to me...
is that what replaced the old MDC police force (Metropolitan District Commission
The MDC police force was merged into the State police along with a large amount of grumbling from the State police. The enviomental police are in charge of boat registration and enforcement and also some of the State parks

I "believe" this hunter knew what he/she shot.Unfortunately, the dog owner broke a few laws of her own.Nobody won and a dog/pet/family member died in the process.
Then you must live in a hell hole then. I am a deer hunter(not dear hunter)and I am respectable, as well as the hundred or so other deer hunters I know personally. In Northern CA we seldom, if ever, have people shoot cows, dogs, cats or any other domestic animal. Hunter safety continues to improve over the years and there are actually more shooting accidents involving bird hunting than deer hunting(don't believe me? Look up the statistics). It sounds as if many people on here just don't like hunters and many sound like liberals. Hunting is like any thing else, you have some jerks involved but most are great people, in fact I would trust most hunters over non-hunters on any given day.
I think this “hunter shoots dog” thread flushed out a lot of liberals impersonating conservatives here!
They blew their cover!
“They blew their cover!”
So we flushed them? Whats the bag limit on false conservatives?
The real hunters aren’t likely to leave as lasting an impression as the idiots.
The idiots usually leave a highly negative impression, and will be remembered in exclusion to all else.
Like the guys who blast the lawn decorations in my neighborhood.
