An elderly man was found near an escalator in the store, and police said a young black man was being sought as the suspected shooter. Early indications were that as many as five people may be injured.
Colby Barak told KETV NewsWatch 7 that she was on lockdown inside Westroads Mall. She said she was doing Christmas shopping at Younkers, and an announcement was made that no one would be allowed to leave.
Just before 2 p.m., Barrett said, another announcement was made that shoppers could leave but would not be allowed back in.
Dozens of police and sheriff's cars were arriving at the mall.
A description of the shooter, broadcast over scanners, was that he was in an Army-green vest and was holding a rifle.
Another Westroads shopper, Kathy, told KETV NewsWatch 7 that she heard three pops. She said a Bath and Body Works manager approached her and told her to get out of the mall hallway as there was a situation, and a shooter had not been located.
Yeah, I heard that.
Columbine mentality.
Very scary stuff.
I saw video of the back window of the Cherokee being blown out. Investigator’s cars are on three sides of the car. Checking for bombs first, most likely. Bomb robot next to the Jeep.
Some of the danger is that people don't take it seriously.
What I am referring to is the exterior lubrication or coating on some but not all 22LR. That tends to drag pathogens deep into the body and the 22 can splatter when it its a bone further spreading the fragments. Coupled with the availability and cheapness of the round it was seen more often. I was in the Medical corp ( US Army) in the 70âs at Ft Sam Houston and Walter Reed. The ER docs I had conversations with were the ones who made the dirty round connection. It seemed to be accurate insomuch as the patients I dealt with who had bad post gunshot infections seemed to be shot with a 22LR more often than not. The 9mm may have surpassed the 22LR as gang bangers have up gunned but the 22LR is still a surprisingly lethal round for its size.
Why three suicide notes?
Reported now there were three notes. One to family, one to friends, one “will.”
There are more people like this kid out there than anyone can imagine.
That’s why I pay no attention to the “No Guns” signs.
Left 3 notes. One to family, one to friends, and a “will” is what I just heard reported.
They are checking out the car. Reporter said they are taking strict precautions because of things he said in the notes about going out in style and being famous.
Yes. Arm(s) of the robot checking inside the car, and the wheel wells.
Have you heard exactly what was said in the note to the friends?
Thanks. We just saw someone on TV that we knew - cute blond girl with a bob haircut. She and her husband and friend were shopping there today. We just keep looking at each other and can’t believe this. My husband shops there and even picks up things for me because I don’t like to shop. Scary to think he might have been there. We’d never have believed once upon a time that this kind of horror could exist and now it is all too commonplace. My heart just goes out to all the victims.
This area is in an upscale neighborhood. Von Maur is a special store that treats you like family. My point is that it can happen anywhere.
I guess if you’re a 19 year old high school drop-out you’ll be offered low-paying jobs.
Not yet.
Why didn’t someone take him out? Even if the mall has a no guns policy, it doesn’t mean anything. They don’t search you as you enter. Must be plenty of armed customers there. One (or more) should have taken him/them down.
Good point BTLD...a few years ago there was quite a controversey here in Omaha regarding police response time. It depends on how the OPD defines “response.” The “time” doesn’t count unless police are actively looking for a shooter or perp. For example, a cop may arrive in 4 mins, but if the first cop is waiting for backup before going in and the second cop arrives 2 mins later, then the response time is 6 mins not 4. Response time is based on when active pursuit begins, not when a cop arrives.
Sounds like it happened pretty fast.....
Right. Something like that goes without saying.
So I wonder why CBS has to mention it in a 30-second news story.
Two officers at the back of the car. Apparently no bomb inside.
Besides the ‘wax’ on some shells, consider the skin-clothing-hair being pushed into your body. That’s why when your shot/stabbed you immediately get an IV with a broad spectrum antibacterial solution. Osteomyelitis (bone rot) can be very nasty. Throw in a potential for internal abcesses as well and you got a hairy stinky mess that may take months/years to maybe resolve.
