An elderly man was found near an escalator in the store, and police said a young black man was being sought as the suspected shooter. Early indications were that as many as five people may be injured.
Colby Barak told KETV NewsWatch 7 that she was on lockdown inside Westroads Mall. She said she was doing Christmas shopping at Younkers, and an announcement was made that no one would be allowed to leave.
Just before 2 p.m., Barrett said, another announcement was made that shoppers could leave but would not be allowed back in.
Dozens of police and sheriff's cars were arriving at the mall.
A description of the shooter, broadcast over scanners, was that he was in an Army-green vest and was holding a rifle.
Another Westroads shopper, Kathy, told KETV NewsWatch 7 that she heard three pops. She said a Bath and Body Works manager approached her and told her to get out of the mall hallway as there was a situation, and a shooter had not been located.
Oh yeah. Exactly what I’m thinking.
Friend Sean may be under a microscope.Although Sean said he hadn’t seen Robby in awhile, there’s texting, im, myspace and all that junk people don’t really need. I think they may want to confiscate Sean’s pc.
So, the lady he was staying was aware he had a gun.
Just heard he stole the gun from his uncle.
I'd say.
KFAB reported he got it from his stepdad.
CNN left Omaha coverage to return to Huckabee/Romney stuff earlier. Lucky us that Larry King's on vacation or that would really have been creepy.
It only took police 6 MINUTES to arrive.
Dirty round? Can you elaborate?
“Exterior lubrication or coating on some but not all 22LR rounds. It tends to help drag pathogens deep into the body plus the 22 is cheap and will splatter if it hits a bone helping disperse infectious pieces....”
Thanks for the information. I know the waxy coating you are talking about; it is sticky and might have embedded grime. However, any shots through clothing could drag all sorts of contamination into the body. All lead bullets have some form of lubrication. Also, any non-jacketed lead bullet will possibly splatter lead fragments along with bone fragments. A larger cabiber will impart more energy and blast a larger hole, so I am not totally convinced a 22LR is any deadlier. Extra holes of any size are a bad scene, right?
The bomb squad just blew something up at the Mall...by the suspect’s Jeep!
They exploded out the back window of the suspect’s jeep, parked by Penney’s.
I had heard mention of a “grenade” in the area on the Fox radio news.....
A couple of the first witnesses interviewed said they thought the police arrived extrememly fast - like within two minutes.
...of course, six minutes may seem like two minutes when shots are being fired.
A live grenade was discovered there (a few days ago?), and was defused.
Ok....
YIKES! Please let us know...
They are reporting that there was a “loud boom” apparently on the parking lot. The LE are using the bomb squad robot near the perp’s vehicle. Don’t know yet what is happening.
Channel 7 reports Hawkins left two notes. One was a “will,” which included leaving his car to his family, and another saying that “now I’ll be famous.”
Lots of .22s are lubed with a greasy/waxy lubricant, it picks up lint dust and junk. Ideal for making a wounds septic.
It really wouldn’t have mattered if the police were there in 2 or 6 minutes. As I’ve said, around here, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.
This is not a bash on the cops. They can’t be everywhere. And when someone decides to do something like this, they pick their time and spot and then they go.....
By the time someone figures out that shots are actually being fired, get to their cell phone, call 911, explain to 911 and then the radio call goes out.....everybody is dead.
That’s why you arm security guards and you have legally permitted, trained private citizens that can and will limit the carnage.
