The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows a new national leader in the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination. While enjoying an amazing surge, Mike Huckabee has earned support from 20% of Likely Republican Primary Voters nationwide. Three points back, at 17%, is Rudy Giuliani. Thats the lowest level of support ever recorded for Giuliani in the tracking poll and represents a seven-point decline over the past week. Huckabee has gained eight points during the same time frame (see recent daily numbers).

If Fred is flatlining, then so is Romney. Today Fred is last among the front runners in the Rasmussen, but yesterday Romney was. In fact , Romney had a bad week. No one said Romney was dead. Romney has slipped greatly in Iowa and, other than NH, he does not have much of a lock on any more states than Fred. Fred is tied for 1st in SC and has a good chance of winning there.
This race is still as open to Fred as it is to any of the other front runners. The parade of Thompson obituaries are only intended to make us believe otherwise.

WHo are these people who support Huckabee? I cant find a single one. The people you fraternize with are probably too informed to support a man like Huckabee. The more people learn about him, the more they dislike him.

IMO the social Conservatives made their stand, and have decided on an “acceptable” candidate, perfect marriage, LIFELONG pro-life, good Christian, never been to tough, or made any tough decision to hurt him too much, etc.
Who I will gladly support and work for, when nominated. (the msm loves him because he agrees with them on all issues save social)
BUT, we need to pull out our troops from the ME ASAP, they will be in even more danger with a center right, or leftwing government.
And I’m serious about a pullout, hopefully President Bush will see what is coming down the pike, and act accordingly.

LOL. I’m sorry. I really try hard not to. It’s not like me at all. :-)

I will say one good thing about Huckabee. He’s not Rudy Giuliani.

Very concerned about Fred. He need to gain traction. Everybody has to stop worrying about "traction" and the horserace aspect of the primaries. This is not a general election. John Kerry trailed Howard Dean by double digits two weeks before New Hampshire in 2004 and won by 13% - a 23% gain!

LOL, the “one-issue” was RG, and the GOP hasn’t been called the stupid party for nothing!

The people you fraternize with are probably too informed to support a man like Huckabee. The more people learn about him, the more they dislike him. This is the EXACT same thing we have said here about Giuliani all along--and it IS happening. The same thing may happen to Huckabee--we'll soon see.
If it does, Fred then becomes the logical 'consensus conservative--to unite the Party and energize the base (BOTH of which will be necessary to win next year).

Obviously, among informed conservatives, Fred Thompson is the clear choice and Huckabee does not have a strong following. While the entire GOP is not made up of conservatives, I still think this casts serious doubt on Huckabee ultimately winning the nomination.

That most certainly IS a step in the right direction--and the biggest plus for Huckabee!!

Do I have to. I mostly avoid CNN other than watching the brunette Chetry chick.
Can’t make up my mind if I think she’s worthy or not.

First things firstlets get Rudy out of the picture!!! Once that happens, I'm confident primary voters will get down to serious business and nominate the most conservative nominee.

"Bernie Keriks indictment, the revelations of the NYPD being used to shuttle Judith the Mistress, the Giuliani Partners resignation... None of these had anything to do with his demise, Im sure."
As someone pointed out recently, these would be resume enhancers were Rudy running for the Democrat nomination...which is exactly what he should be doing IMO.
I am in no way thrilled with Huckabee, but I'm thankful he's getting rid of Rudy for us. I don't believe Huckabee can win the nomination any more than Pat Robertson could, but it's hardly a surprise he's probably going to win Iowa.

Once Huckabee get on top of the polls, he will be under constant attack. He has plenty of his own scandals in Arkansas.

What in the world are some so-called GOPers possibly thinking? Mr. Huckabee is not a conservative, heâs a POPULIST. I have never been a one-issue voter and never will be. So many things affect us all.
The GOP has been so eager to expand its voting base by appeasing people who are not Conservative that it has incrementally shifted towards the socialist left with each successive election. The GOP can return to what once was its Conservative base by uniting behind a rock solid Conservative Duncan Hunter.
