DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, a Southern Baptist preacher who has surged in Iowa with evangelical Christian support, bristled Tuesday when asked if creationism should be taught in public schools.
Huckabee — who raised his hand at a debate last May when asked which candidates disbelieved the theory of evolution — asked this time why there is such a fascination with his beliefs.
"I believe God created the heavens and the Earth," he said at a news conference with Iowa pastors who murmured, "Amen."
"I wasn't there when he did it, so how he did it, I don't know," Huckabee said.
But he expressed frustration that he is asked about it so often, arguing with the questioner that it ultimately doesn't matter what his personal views are.
"That's an irrelevant question to ask me — I'm happy to answer what I believe, but what I believe is not what's going to be taught in 50 different states," Huckabee said. "Education is a state function. The more state it is, and the less federal it is, the better off we are."
The former Arkansas governor pointed out he has advocated for broad public school course lists that include the creative arts and math and science. Why, then, he asked, is evolution such a fascination?
In fact, religion seems to be more of an issue in the GOP Iowa caucuses with one month left before the voting.

Time has nothing to do with position on the earth :) Time is simply a measurement to help determine the distance from a known point to an unknown point. Essentially all GPS positioning does is measure how long a signal takes to get to you from a satellite. That is it.
So lets summarize. You don't understand the basic principles of General relativity (you think the speed of light is additive), and you don't understand how the GPS system works (you think it is based on primarily on wavelength). You think that the earth is 10,000 years old and on the event horizon of a white hole. Does that about sum you up so far? : )

I realized that that was exactly what you were attempting to do way back near the beginning. That's how you blew it on your first flashlight question; you forgot to put the guy in motion. All you had to do was admit it; no biggie, but instead you had to rant on.

Being “devout” isn’t enough, being right is more important. Jimmy Carter was NEVER a true Southern Baptist, and he and his church represented the now gone left wing of the SBC. Jimmy Carter’s church, along with Jimmy, withdrew their association from the SBC because it had grown “too conservative” for them.
In truth there is NO real comparison between Carter and Huckabee. That is a gross misrepresentation that the rabid supporters of other candidates have started because they can’t stand to see Huckabee do well. I’m certain an over zealous one will eventually compare Huckabee to Hitler.
I personally don’t hold the candidate responsible for the actions of their adherents. I like Mike Huckabee, but I would rather see him as a VP to Thompson. I don’t like Thompson as much, but at this time in history, I think he would make a better president. Huckabee would shore up Thompson with the moral conservatives. Thompson could tutor Huckabee for a future run as president.
Oh BTW - being “clever” means being quick on your feet with a timely comeback. Ronald Reagan was a master at being clever. I’m not saying Huckabee is a Ronald Reagan, but his wit is very reaganisk.
I believe all those things are literal discriptions, but I still acknowledge that the Bible is full of literary devices and figurative language. But you can usually tell the difference. Often the Bible itself will directly point it out.
What I don't do, is assume that if I can't figure out how God did something, that it must be figurative. I don't know how he can answer a prayer, much less the instantaneous healing of an ear, walking on water, or appearing in full flesh within a locked room. He's God for crying out loud. He's obviously smarter than we are. So I don't sweat it when our smartest scientists can't figure out what happened on Joshua's long day, or how to make a life form from scratch.
People who believe the Earth is 6,000 years old are a cult.
You may not like what they believe, but it is imprecise to label them as a “cult”.
