Thompson says US needs to get back on right track

SPARTANBURG, SC (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson says Americans need to choose a president next year that will get the country back on the right track.

The former Tennessee senator told an overflow crowd of about 100 people at a Spartanburg restaurant that the nation needs a true conservative as president to help lessen the influence of liberals in Congress.

Thompson also emphasized his Southern roots and says he is an example of the true American story.

Thompson also talked about his bedrock conservative values and said he is unique among Republican candidates in that his stance on key issues hasn't changed. That was clearly a jab at Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney.

Thompson plans later stops in Greer and Greenville.

I believe that is the Spanish debate.

I couldn’t care less. An hour and a half spent browbeating the GOP candidates for being “mean” and “racist” and whining “What are you going to do for us?”.

“BTW, it looks like the Iowa Electronic Market is far more keen on Huckabee than Thompson at the moment”

Iowa should stick to corn. Idiots!!

It will be interesting to see what happens with the split, since there’s a huge gap between Iowa’s current price for “Republican Rest Of Field” and Intrade’s price for Huckabee. There could be some arbitrage opportunities there if most of the present RROF interest is driven by Huckabee.

A Fred Thompson/Duncan Hunter GOP Presidential ticket would be awesome if it really happened!

A more interesting GOP Presidential debate will be taking place on Wednesday, December 12, in Des Moines, Iowa at 1 P.M. Central Time. Alan Keyes will also be included in this debate, and this alone should make it more interesting with the first tier candidates also participating with Keyes this time. This is also the last scheduled GOP Presidential debate before the Iowa Caucuses.

Thanks for the information. Please post if you hear about coverage or possibly re-play coverage. I found out the debate on Sunday in Coral Gables, FL is for those who do not speak English.

Sundays GOP Presidential debate will be broadcast live at 7 P.M. EST on all Univision channels (? repeat showings on Univision) while the Sunday GOP Presidential debate will be broadcast live at 1 P.M. Central Time on all willing PBS channels as well as possibly also on the Fox News Channel, CNN, and C-SPAN with repeats later on at 7 P.M. on Iowa’s PBS (? repeats on all of the other channels).

So Sunday(9th)debate is in Coral Gables, FL on Univision 7:00PM Eastern. Do you mean that the next debate in Iowa is on Thursday(13th) at 1:00PM Central?

The next GOP Presidential debate after this Sunday’s GOP Presidential debate will take place on Wednesday, December 12 at 1 P.M. Central (live) in Iowa. The next Democratic Presidential debate will be taking place at 1 P.M. live at the same location in Iowa on Thursday, December 13. If you tune in on Thursday, then you will get the Democratic debate and miss the GOP debate by one day.
