Supposedly Gerald Ford was once seated next to the Queen of Spain at a White House state dinner, and commented to her he couldn't tell Greeks and Turks apart (this would have been when Cyprus was a hot issue). He didn't realize that she was a member of the Greek royal family by birth.

At least that's the story I've heard...not sure if it is reliable.
