“I have heard of the books but never knew about the anti-Catholic bias until the past few weeks “

Are you talking about those Watchtower magazines that get left at my front door?

Hmmmm. I don’t rely on others to provide my opinion on topics. We just go about it differently.

It doesn't require a lot of common sense to know that a movie based on a book written by a rabid religion hater is going to be anti-Christian. It doesn't take a lot of sense to know that anything in a Michael Moore documentary is going to be lies since he's a known liar. It doesn't take a lot of sense to know that the Satanic Bible supports devil worship since it's the official text of devil worshipers.

Do as you will. My money will not go to profit the purveyors of anti-Christian garbage.

The first book does not have the anti-God (He is the villain that must be destroyed) bias of the series. It is introduced gradually to the reader. The first book introduces the girl and only a small part of what is going on. The villains of the first book turn into heroes in the third book when it ends up being all the people and angels against God and the angels on His side.

The pair of gay angels, God so weak He hides in a glass case from stiff breezes, the idea that God is just another angel that showed up first and lied about being God, these things and others are introduced after you read the first book and are (hopefully from the author’s perspective) hooked on them.

I will not support them. I read the books because of the trailer, thinking I would be seeing a good, Narnia style story. Instead, it could be considered the anti-Narnia.

Interesting, as I've always appreciated the very white or pale ones.

Same with me...I always fall easily for the Irish lasses.
(Yes, I know, she's Australian, but with Irish background).

Nicole Kidman is a Catholic

Shows the world's lack of understanding. There's a lot of fine people who are in church every Sunday (catholic, baptist, methodist, or anything else you can think of) who are on their way to hell at this very moment. Christianity isn't really a religion; it's a relationship with God through His son, that happens to have some religion attached to it on the side.

As I've said before, nordic extraction redheads (and yes, the Irish lasses too) can make me forget my own name with a simple smile.

Exactly, which is why it is frustrating when people say someone isn’t really Christian or Catholic or whatever (unless that person is Fred Phelps or David Koresh).. we have no idea what her personal relationship with Jesus is and I would rather give someone the benefit of the doubt and think the best of them.

I think he turned $cientologist after they were married, one of the things that triggered her to divorce him.

I recall hearing that as well. He wanted her to convert to Scientology and she refused based on her Catholic convictions or something along that line.

I believe the point of a site such as FR is to discuss the issues of the day. This is an issue of the day. It’s exactly what a site like FR was set up to discuss. It has an atheist message, a strong one, at least the book does. If you like it, fine. No one here is telling you not to see it.

> But at least Kevin Smith, does claim to be a Catholic and he does actually attend Mass, although he does have disagreements with the Church.

Did you *see* the movie? I don’t care if Kevin Smith is an ordained priest. It was the most blatant anti-Catholic tripe I have ever had the displeasure to see (on cable). And it was BORING — pages and pages of speechifying (the f-bombs did not lighten the effect, either).

You’re welcome. In forty plus years of reading, this is the second set of books I have thrown away because of the content. With most things I can find something redeeming in them. Even the main characters have no noble characteristics in the end.

But if they continue to film the trilogy, then it will be hard to do without the anti-Christian message. The last book is so dogmatically anti-Christian that it got in his way of writing a good story. The man absolutely hates Christians. And C. S. Lewis. His story starts in a wardrobe for a purpose.

By the time the second and third segments are filmed, the country will be far more accepting of the anti-Christian theme because the forces behind the anti-Christian movement will have successfully moved the country further from Christ. The Secular Humanist religion works tirelessly to achieve that goal.

Ditto that, as well as Brasilian, Spanish, Japanese, Indian, African.. heck.. beautiful women in general do that to me, but I do have a weakness for the red heads.

A lot of people haven’t read any of the books. From what I heard, the movie doesn’t have any anti-religious tones to it. Looks entertaining, I will probably see it this weekend, then I will know for sure.

I generally assume that someone is truly as Christian as they claim until I'm given a clear reason to think otherwise. With Kidman, you can't know for sure. My only point was that claiming to be a catholic doesn't mean a whole lot. That just makes you part of a religion.

Not a Kevin Smith fan I take it? DON’T see Clerks 2! (I’m a Kevin Smith fan so I love them all, but I understand it is not in everyone’s taste.)

It’s not just the movie “insiders.” Pullman set out to write anti-Narnia books. He hates Lewis. Obsessively so.

Early in his career, Dean Koontz, the horror writer, wrote a science fiction piece about a family that had captured God and imprisoned him in a glass cage. they had contained Him for centuries and all along the world was getting better without Him.

In the end, if I remember correctly, a group of fanatic Christians broke Him out, but He had been so weakened by his centuries of struggle against His imprisonment that He was easily stomped on, literally like a roach, and destroyed.

And they all lived happily ever after.

There really is nothing new under the sun. I've probably still got that book in a box somewhere. It was one of the old Ace Doubles. I think.

with all due respect, one doesn’t need to experience something they think is trash just to form the opinion it is trash. I don’t go into strip bars because I think they are trash. Do I need to go into one first to form that opinion? God gave me the Holy Spirit and He warns me of things all the time and that is all I need to know if something is good for me or not, not by experiencing it first.

Same applies with drugs. Do i need to try weed first to know it isn’t good for me? Not likely!
