CNN's chief national correspondent John King criticized his network's handing of the Republican YouTube debate that critics have called "Debate-gate" because at least ten of the supposed "undecided Republican voters" submitting video questions turned out to be Democratic activists. Responding to a question from the audience at a National Press Club program about media coverage of the 2008 presidential election Monday night, King admitted that "fundamental journalism mistakes" were made in the vetting process.
King called the mistakes "inexcusable" and said that the debacle "should not have happened." So far, CNN has not announced any investigation of the circumstances surrounding controversy or disciplinary action against those responsible for organizing the debate.
You don’t succeed by playing in a game in which your enemy controls all the rules.
You succeed by standing up for what is right in an impartial environment.
and “everybody does it”
I’m surprised some college hasn’t already released a coincidentally timed survey about how planting taped questioners really isn’t oral.
You and I know that it was a stacked deck. Read between the lines, King and Cooper are trying to cover their own kiesters, not the network’s. Keep asking your very important question, but don’t forget that it is important to take advantage of dissention in the ranks of your opponent.
There should be a level playing field for both parties...not a GOP candidate being asked ‘ is it true you are gay?’ while one of the Dems is asked: How cold was it in Iowa ? The Reps should insist on fairness and if the fairness is lacking, bring that out into the open...
You know though.
It would have been really nice if someone. Just one Republican candidate. Would have taken a stand and called what’s his name the CNN “reporter” to task by simply asking:
“Just how many questions about homosexuality do you think a Republican debate, really needs” - and why is the topic so obviously important to you?”.
After that ridiculous post, why would I bother?
There. Fixed it. But he's on the right track.
The GOP should stop whining about this and grow up.
Who in the GOP has been "whining about this"? I have seen some complaints by individuals, and more by the media, but I have yet to see the "GOP" complaining.
That said, I think we ought to move on, and we ought to try to find a better format for our candidates to interact with each other. Limited participation roundtables might be useful, with a varying four or five candidates participating each time. This might be easier to orgainize after the field has winnowed a bit.
Rotten, vacuous Dems refuse to go on Fox to debate.
Timid and hiding under Wolfie Boy’s scraggly beard is their call to bravado.
BINGO!
I never had a problem with John King... is he a lefty-communist-rat... or is he a fair journalist?
What did you find trollish about that reply? I’ve read it and agree with the point he was making, might as well report me too.
Once again, there is nothing that can be done about all of this.
If the GOP wants to reach a national audience they will have to take advantage of all venues good or bad.
This is something that they can use to beat the Left-wing at their own game.
They just have to communicate the conservative position without shame, without equivocation, without compromise.
They win on the issues every time, just be prepared for the crap that we know they will throw their way!
I guess what I mean is that Republicans and Conservatives need to toughen up and realize that these are the rules as long as we have the 1st Amendment.
It’s not that we should not point out the hypocrisy of the Left in this, just that we need to tone down the griping.
I think liberal “journalists” are given a pass.
They should be challenged on their bias. Always.
I lol’d at the source.
I am wondering if this isn’t a ploy of “Better to ask foregiveness than permission.”
They made their attempt to screew with this debate and figured they would just say sorry if caught.
Nothing escapes FReepublic.
I think Fabozz in 17 has a legit point.
The GOP should stage a debate that would be televised on LIVE STREAMING INTERNET - that would upstage ANYTHING in quality that the drive-bys would do and would also kill their ratings in the process ;-).
