Australia - Rudd signs Kyoto ratification document

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has signed the instrument of ratification of the Kyoto Protocol.

Mr Rudd says it is the first official act of the new Government and demonstrates the commitment to tackling climate change.

The ratification document will be sent to the United Nations and it comes into effect 90 days after that.

Mr Rudd says Australia will be a full member of the Kyoto Protocol before March next year.

The agreement means Australia's greenhouse gas emissions should not be higher than 8 per cent above 1990 levels.

Ratifying the treaty was one of Labor's major campaign promises.

The Greens say the move makes today a historic day for Australia, but comes years too late.

Mr Rudd, Climate Change Minister Penny Wong, Environment Minister Peter Garrett and Treasurer Wayne Swan are now preparing to go to Bali next week for the United Nations conference on climate change.

*laughing* ---> Rudd has signed the instrument of ratification of the Kyoto Protocol.

The fist thing that boy does is screw up. I don't see much of a future for them.

I love how he told the Muslims in his country to stop preaching extremism or else he was going to deport them. I wish we had a candidate like him.

.... where they will enjoy a heros' welcome along with Albore, and the whole week will be a non-stop love-fest for leftist nutjobs. I sure hope that whoever the USA is sending will not be saying anything tooooo stooopid trying to commit the USA to any new idiocies.

I don't recall this being a subject/question in either party's "debates".

More anti Constitutional damage would be done, by a foreign entity, than any of our own congressional critters could possibly think of causing.

The Aussies will regret that, especially since the Canucks and Brits have already declared Kyoto dead.

What a fool. He’s won the election yet he still acts like a candidate.

What exactly were greenhouse gas emissions in 1990 in Australia? Did someone run around with a testing kit? It’s an awfully big place.

Methinks somehow magically Oz will JUST reach its goal of 8% by massaging the 1990 or the 2008 figure with Rudd taking credit for - well, nothing really.

Kyoto/Bali supporters continue to buy a pig in a poke then cry foul when cooler heads in the USA and elsewhere decline to be fooled in the same manner.

Moreover many of the ‘climate change’ (hurl) signees are Third World backwaters where pollution controls are nonexistent.

All the Aussies have to do is to destroy all the greenhouses - problem solved. This greenhouse gas hysteria is soooo easy to solve. All the moonbats will be relieved and the rest of us can just moveon.com.

How can the Environment Minister Peter Garrett sleep while his beds are burning?!

What's next, all white folks must return to England, give Australia back to the Abos?

New Zealand ratified Kyoto as well and they quickly found out how expensive it gets.
