N.H., Iowa Republicans care more about terror than Rudy Giuliani's trysts

Many voters shrugged off the renewed spotlight on Rudy Giuliani's extramarital affair - but one of his campaign officials Saturday warned the issue could "haunt" his presidential bid.

"Anybody who is a mayor or President, they always have security whether it's on personal time or business time," said Sam DeYoung, of Swanzey, N.H. "It seems like they're trying to make a lot of nothing."

Although some political pundits have predicted that Giuliani's messy personal life may cost him, a series of interviews with voters in New Hampshire and Iowa suggests the public has a high tolerance for his marital shenanigans.

The records unearthed last week showed for the first time how the Giuliani administration scattered thousands of dollars in travel and security costs among a slew of little-known city agencies when he began his affair with Judith Nathan - now his third wife - in 1999.

At a town hall meeting in Durham, N.H., Saturday afternoon, voters quizzed Giuliani on issues including terrorism, AIDS and economic development. Afterwards, Giuliani responded with laughter when a reporter asked him if he thought it was appropriate for taxpayers to foot the bill for his Hamptons trysts with Nathan.

"I think everything was done quite appropriately," he said. "All this has been answered. I think all of it was answered four or five years ago."

However, Giuliani's mid-Atlantic regional chairman, former Maryland Gov. Bob Ehrlich, expressed concern about how the scandal might impact the ex-mayor.

Ehrlich questioned the timing of the story, which hit just weeks before the first contests in Iowa and New Hampshire. But if it's true Giuliani's then-mistress was ferried around by the NYPD on the taxpayers' tab, "It's clearly inappropriate, clearly wrong, and would certainly hurt the campaign," Erlich said on Maryland radio station WBAL-AM.

"If the substance of the story is true, he's got a lot of explaining to do," Ehrlich said of Giuliani. "It would certainly haunt him."

Amy Underwood, 19, an engineering student at the University of New Hampshire, said last week's bookkeeping scandal won't affect her vote.

"I guess I don't really care so much about that when I look at the progress that was made on New York City under his power," she said.

Judy Romine, 65, of New Virginia, Iowa, who raises horses and goats, was unfazed.

"It's like Bill Clinton all over again, isn't it?" she said, referring to Clinton's affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky. "He's not the first President to have affairs, and, hell's bells, he won't be the last."

So far, Giuliani's GOP rivals have refrained from using the allegations as a political brickbat.

It amazes me how folks here at Freerepublic just don’t get it with Rudy....he is the man, he is the right guy at the right time and everyone here will be singing his praises 6 months after he is President, I guarentee it, if we should be so blessed that he wins.

You shouldn't be amazed. This is a conservative website. Giuliani is not a Conservative. You should refer to the FR homepage where it says "Free Republic is the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web."

"He's not the first President to have affairs, and, hell's bells, he won't be the last."

How ironic. Billyboy's squalid debauches inoculate Rudy against the scandal bug, just in time to run against Mrs. Billyboy, who enabled and tried to cover them all up.

BS!...This is just a 'diversion' his campaign created from day one, only to distract us from the real intent to get this guy elected. His handlers think we are too dumb to figure out what the game plan is in 'Idaho.' 'Some people' (you have to guess who! :) - are very interested in neutralizing the 'Christian' influence on the GOP and they thought JullieAnnie was the perfect TROJAN HORSE to do it...

Sorry pals, it's not gonna work :)

The UnAmerican Democrat Party, as a policy, have spent the last 7 years undermining the President of the United States at a time of war, they have aided and abetted the enemy, leaked national security intell to the enemy, they have roamed the globe propagandizing for the enemy and accusing our President and soldiers of war crimes, and are still threatening the President with impeachment daily, while working hard to cut funding to our men with boots on the ground. They are responsible for countless deaths on the battlefield and for prolonging and making our missions more difficult.

This is not the policy of the Republican Party nor anyone running for the nomination.

Don't underestimate the ability of liberal Republicans to put in power those who may look more politically correct than the moonbats you describe, but who in the end will implement policies that damage America much more than the moonbats could ever dream of.

If he wins(big IF), we will be likely living in fear of an attorney general that makes Janet Reno look good!! You want that?

Yes I know, you indicated that many times, which is fine of course. Many Conservatives running in 04 and 06 asked an received endorsement from RG, campaigning raising money etc, so obviously he wants them in office and does not hate Conservatives, nor consider them a enemy like the UnAmerican Democrat Party, imo.

-—”...so obviously he wants them in office and does not hate Conservatives,...”-—

So running-for-President Rudy is to be believed, but not-running-for-President Rudy isn’t to be believed?

Please.

Few in this country have done more damage to Conservatives, and tried harder to do that damage, than Rudy Giuliani.

a series of interviews with voters in New Hampshire and Iowa suggests the public has a high tolerance for his marital shenanigans.

Rudy Julie Annie's actions go beyond the despicable act of committing adultery; they are significant of a man who has no governing moral authority and no regard for the pain he causes others in order to get his way and his self gratification.

If it comes down between him and Hillary, I'm definitely going "Third Party" and I don't care if it does put the Beast in the White House. She's no more of an immoral slut than he; probably less so.

BTW, I assume his kids are still not supporting him for POTUS since they still are not speaking to him and have nothing to do with the low-life scum bag.

NEWS STORY Bracewell & Giuliani Firm Advises Cintra in First Privatization of Toll Road in Texas DALLAS (March 1, 2007) Bracewell & Giuliani LLP (Rudy's Texas-based law firm with global connections) advised Cintra Concesiones de Infraestructuras de Transporte, S.A., a Spanish transportation company, in its successful bid to develop State Highway 121 into a toll road through Collin and Denton counties ("trade road" is four football fields wide). The award to Cintra, approved by the Texas Transportation Commission, is the first privatization of a Texas toll road. Bracewell is acting as project counsel to Cintra with respect to the 50-year concession from the Texas Department of Transportation. Cintra will pay a $2.1 billion upfront and annual lease payments totaling $700 million. "Cintra was awarded this project because of its proven expertise and competitive proposal," said Thomas O. Moore, partner with Bracewell & Giuliani. "This is the largest transportation deal of 2007. This is one of only five deals in the country."

Voters should keep in mind: when Rooty Giuliani campaigns on the Mideast, the WOT and his 9/11 "credentials," Globalist Rooty and his Globalist backers are preparing to profit bigtime off the US government (that's us, the taxpayers).

Giuliani's global connections (that we know of) include:

(1) Giuliani Capital Advisors, LLC (AKA Giuliani Partners LLC),
(2) Giuliani Group,
(3) Giuliani-Kerik (re-named Giuliani Security and Safety, after the departure of the tainted ex-Police Commissioner),
(4) Giuliani-Van Essen,
(5) Bracewell & Giuliani LLP law firm (based in Texas with global interests), and
(6) Giuliani Security & Safety, Asia

MORE BACKGROUND Giuliani firm has Venezuela ties

The law firm headlined by presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani does business with a company tied to Venezuelan leader Hugo Chávez, who has called President Bush ``the devil.'' Bracewell & Giuliani lobbies on behalf of Texas-based Citgo Petroleum, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Venezuelan oil company controlled by Chávez. The Bush administration said last year that Venezuela was ''not cooperating fully'' with antiterrorism efforts, stopping one step short of grouping the country with state sponsors of terrorism like Iran, Syria and Cuba. Giuliani, the former New York City mayor best known for his leadership after the Sept. 11 terrorism attacks, does not personally lobby for Citgo, though he is a senior partner at the firm and shares in its profits.
