OUR COVENANT WITH GOD

Abram accepted the covenant God offered him, "I Am God Almighty; walk before me and be blameless. I will confirm my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers." Abram fell face-down, and God said to him, "As for me, this is my covenant with you: you will be the father of many nations. No longer will you be called Abram: your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations." (Genesis 17:1-5). Like Abraham, we also have a covenant with God; we are asked by God to "walk before Him" loving one another as He has loved us. When we are in covenant with God, we humbly submit ourselves, innocent from self-centered interest, to obey His commands to love our God with all of our being, and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Fulfilling the covenant with God, Abraham received the blessing of familial prosperity. God's desire is to grant prosperity to each of our lives. Are we faithful in our love of God and each other?

Some of these links are broken. I’m using this post out of respect to Mr. Tonkin as he used this for his first post. My apologies, I’d change the broken links if I could.

O Lord, each of us has fears that betray; worries that capture and shake
out our joy. We find ourselves in limbo because we are neither here nor
there. We are in a time of transition, of getting ready. Change and
chance surround us. Help us, O Lord, to return to your presence. Cause
us to find the point and purpose of each day. All we ask is that you keep
us on our feet so that we might walk with you. Bless us this day and
grant us peace and safety. Amen.

A Promise Fulfilled

She will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. —Matthew 1:21

In the off-season of baseball, managers and coaches concentrate on trading players to set themselves up for a winning season the next year. But if you are a Chicago Cubs fan like I am, you don’t expect much because we haven’t won a championship in years! That made the promise from a newly acquired player for the Cubs sound rather incredible. To a packed press conference, he said, “We are going to win the World Series!” I have to admit, it was hard not to be skeptical. It sounded like a promise that most likely he couldn’t deliver.

No doubt the Jews of Jesus’ day who were living under the oppressive thumb of Rome had to wonder if God would ever make good on His promise to send a Deliverer who would forgive sin and restore the glory of Israel (Isa. 1:26; 53:12; 61). God had long ago promised them a Redeemer, but they hadn’t heard a word from Him in 400 years. But then, at just the right moment, the angel announced to Joseph that Mary would give birth to a Son who would “save His people from their sins” (Matt. 1:21).

Christmas proves that God is a promise-keeping God! He said that He would send a Deliverer, and He did. Your sin is not beyond the reach of this promise. He is ready and waiting to forgive your sins—all of them.

Hi Brad's Gramma - I sincerely thank all our current military folks: past, present and their families! America loves our men and women in uniform! 8)

PS - just ordered my special family their Christmas gifts from LL Bean! A little of Maine going to VA!

I have to admit I was a little annoyed with the LL Bean customer rep. She says "happy holidays". I corrected her! PC is sooooo prevalent in Maine.
