From yesterday:

President Bush walks with U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator, Ambassador Mark Dybul, as they leave the White House in Washington, Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, for a trip to Mount Airy, Md. to participate in a meeting on World AIDS Day. World AIDS Day is officially marked around the world on Dec. 1.

President Bush, delivering a statement after he and the First Lady, Laura Bush, participated in a roundtable in Mount Airy, Md., with faith-based groups regarding their roles in the global fight against HIV/AIDS.

QUOTE(s) OF THE DAY

"Good morning. Next week, Congress returns from its Thanksgiving recess. Members are coming back to a lot of unfinished business. And the clock will be ticking, because they have only a few weeks to get their work done before leaving again for Christmas.

Congress must address four critical priorities. First, Congress needs to pass a bill to fund our troops in combat. Second, Congress needs to make sure our intelligence professionals can continue to monitor terrorist communications so we can prevent attacks against our people.

Third, Congress needs to pass a bill to protect middle-class families from higher taxes. And fourth, Congress needs to pass all the remaining appropriations bills to keep the Federal Government running.

Congress's first priority should be to provide the funds and flexibility to keep our troops safe and help them protect our Nation.

Beginning in February, I submitted detailed funding requests to Congress to fund operations in the war on terror. Our military has waited on these funds for months.

The funds include money to carry out combat operations against the enemy in Afghanistan and Iraq. They include money to train the Afghan and Iraqi security forces to take on more responsibility for the defense of their countries. And they include money for intelligence operations to protect our troops on the battlefield.

Pentagon officials recently warned Congress that continued delay in funding our troops will soon begin to have a damaging impact on the operations of our military.

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has already notified Congress that he will transfer money from accounts used to fund other activities of the military services to pay for current operations in Iraq and Afghanistan -- and no more money can be moved.

So he has directed the Army and Marine Corps to develop a plan to lay-off civilian employees, terminate contracts, and prepare our military bases across the country for reduced operations. Military leaders have told us what they need to do their job. It is time for the Congress to do its job and give our troops what they need to protect America."

~~~~~
Just the Facts: 2007 War Funding by the Numbers
"We have nearly 200,000 troops in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan and they are relying on this Congress to send them the funding they need to complete their mission. We also have about 100,000 civilian workers at bases across the country who will be receiving furlough notices if Congress continues to delay action.
Before leaving for another holiday break, Congress should stop ducking the issue of funding our troops and send the President a clean bill he can sign No matter how some leaders here in Washington, D.C. feel about the war, our troops deserve their full support."
–White House Press Secretary Dana Perino, 11/29/07
One of the first televised games that Florida State ever played was against Navy, back in 1976 or 77. Everyone one was so excited that we were going to be on TV! That was just after Bobby Bowden arrived and starting bringing their football program alive!
Former President Bush Going Green In Maine ~~ Windmill Will Produce Power At Vacation Home
Former President George H.W. Bush is harnessing wind to help keep the lights on in his coastal home at Walker's Point.
A 33-foot-tall windmill that can produce 400 kilowatts a month at a wind speed of 12 mph was installed last week at the home of Bush and his wife, Barbara.
An average household uses about 600 kilowatts a month, said Bob Greig, president of All Season Home Improvement Co. in Augusta, which installed the windmill.
The Bushes had the windmill installed after being approached by Southwest Windpower, a nationwide company that manufactures wind turbines, said Jim Appleby, personal aide to the former president. The turbine is connected to the electric power grid.
If the turbine is not producing all of the power needs in the Bush home, it will draw electricity from the power company. But when it produces excess energy, that power goes to the grid and the homeowner will get credits from the power company.
That will probably be the case with the Bushes, said Greig, because the Bushes' summer home needs little power during the winter.
"When he comes up, he should have a substantial credit on his bill to start off the summer," Greig told the Portland Press Herald.
This COULD be a Christmas picture, but it's from Valentine's Day this year. I think it's just precious.
Well, winter has begun .. got the "white stuff" today, and yucky stuff (sleet, freezing rain) is coming, they say. Still, it's kinda comforting to see the seasonal weather returning and know that the traditional seasons remain .. however "inconvenient."
The horse carriages were still out in the snow
