British Paper Urges Readers to “Put a Teddy in their Window to Show Support for Gillian” (Sudan)
National Review ^ | November 30, 2007 | http://media.nationalreview.com/author/?q=NDI0NA==

Many in the British press are aghast at the almost complete lack of reaction by the British Foreign Office over the outrageous jailing of British schoolteacher Gillian Gibbons in Sudan on the charge of insulting religion and inciting hatred, after her class of 7-year-olds named their teddy bear “Mohammed.”

Gibbons, a teacher with an impeccable record who went to Sudan to help local children, is now being held in a crowded cell with 20 hardened criminals in Khartoum’s notorious mosquito-infested Omdurman prison.

The jail was originally designed for 50 people, but now houses up to 1,400.

Yet the British Foreign Office said, “We are treating the issue as a consular matter. This issue should not be seen as part of a diplomatic or political dispute.”

Some commentators, noting that the inaction over the teddy bear incident follows similar inaction after Iran kidnapped 15 British sailors several months ago, said “great” should now be dropped from the name Great Britain.

“Winston Churchill or Margaret Thatcher would never have put up with this nonsense. The SAS would already have been dispatched to free Gillian Gibbons,” noted one commentator. “The British today are doing precisely nothing.”

Meanwhile, Britain’s most popular newspaper, The Sun, notes on its website at the present time that “ten thousand people, some carrying knives and sticks, have marched on the capital of Sudan calling for the teacher jailed for naming a teddy bear Mohammed to be shot.”

The Sun is also urging people to “put a teddy in their window to show their support for Gillian.”

In America, at least one moderate Islamic group, the American Islamic Congress, called on Gibbons to be released and launched an online letter-writing campaign

But the hypocrisy and double standards of other Islamists knows few bounds. The SimplyIslam website, for example is selling a teddy bear named Adam.

I hope things work out for this poor woman. In the future, the British should instruct their traveling social workers to not insult teddy bears.

One thing that escapes me about this whole episode is why are not the real offenders being prosecuted.

After all, it was the 7-year olds that named the bear. A good Muslim would beat all these children to death and then hang their bodies in the public square.

This whole teddy bear movement is a farce. We will not defeat terrorism until people accept the fact Islam is not a religion but a violent political ideology tantamount to Nazism. The problem is the western world is in denial about Islam as they were about Nazism prior to WWII.

I have a friend that raises pigs.

He is so upset about this that when one of the pigs poops, he says he is dropping a mohammed!

“put a teddy in their window to show their support for Gillian.”

Won't that just get people in trouble with the human rights commission?

This smacks of islamophobia and hate speech!

I agree. I believe Islam is a cult. They sure do not act like a 'major' religion when a 7 year old boy names a teddy bear mohamed and that is a threat to their religion!!

A religion that insecure is no religion!

I am so sick of this religion of peace crap! This is a cult of death.

I realize I may be upsetting some people, but until I see hundreds of thousands, or millions, of Muslims rising up denouncing this 13th century, throwback crap, this is nothing more then a cult of death, like Jim Jones, or Charles Manson.

They should put a pig named Mohammad in their windows instead. But then that would result in a lot of broken windows in the UK when their local Muslim infestation breaks out in a violent bloody protest, no doubt with a few murders of a Jew or Christian minister for good measure.

I don’t think the Iron Maiden would have put a Teddy in her window.

British Paper Urges Readers to “Put a Teddy in their Window to Show Support for Gillian” (Sudan)

Another sad example of the ignorant "they're just like us" delusion.
The most likely result of this childish response is either zero or varying degrees of negatives.

Anyone really think the savages in the Sudan will give a spider butt how much support this clueless teacher gets worldwide?

Makes lots of kiddies in GB feel warm and fuzzy. Period.

“Make sure to put a nameplate saying mohammad as well.”

As a reminder of what we are dealing with, that simple gesture could result in deaths. Incredible Huh?

none will...because if they do then THEY are marked for death for being traitors to Islam...you nailed it on the head, it’s Nazism. Stay in line or you will be shot.

Someday someone with the guts to get this thru our nations collective thick skulls.

Could you imagine the uproar if a priest or pastor here did the same thing, the press, imam’s etc would be raising such a stink but since it’s in Sudan with islamic ties no one cares...argh...i give up, i really do.

why not use the forreign aid we normaly pump down this country to buy teddy bears. and drop em instead of the food and medicals we normaly give them. this would be a smart move. then they can see how far they will get if they stand on their own. i don´t think muslim believe alone will save them from hunger.

Sigh

Follow the money that keeps the Sudan's "leadership" in power. The civil authorities even fear the mullahs.

It has a distinct Chinese tinge to it.
