If Congress succeeds in blocking (the program) I believe Mexico could retaliate, as they are entitled to do,” the Arizona Republican told members of the Southern Arizona Logistics Education Organization in Tucson on Thursday.

"The corridor, which runs from Mexico City through Tucson north to Edmonton, Alberta, is a federally designated "high priority" route for the movement of trade."

actually it runs to Winnipeg, Canada. I'm pretty sure Canadian truck drivers, who aren't allowed to "interstate" in the USA either, won't like Mexican truck drivers "interstating" in Canada either, or driving their delapitated unsafe trucks across the prairies, taking their jobs.

I believe the standard answer to that is 40%. However, they're only one of a half dozen countries that claim to supply 40% of our oil.

Maybe after 170 years, it’s time for another war with Mexico. Kick out the elite and scum that run the country, put in a real representative government, and create an economic powerhouse based on capitalistic principles. If that doesn’t work, then keep it, make it a U.S. Territorial subject (sorry, never the 51st state) and control it for our, and their, betterment. Nah, it’ll never happen; too simple, to politically incorrect.

Maybe they’ll retaliate by not sending us any more guest workers.

Why does absurd propaganda like this get posted?

The entire article is meaningless to ordinary Americans unless we are made aware of two facts:

How many Mexican trucks are coming into the U.S.?
How many Americn trucks are going into Mexico?

Point 2: Who gives a rat's elbow if Mexico and Mexicans are "losing patience?"

Mexico should start preparing for when the critical mass of ordinary Americans lose patience.

"It's not an idle threat," Kolbe said. "And it sends a bad message to Mexico and Latin America about how seriously we take our obligations."

How about our sovereignty and national security Kolbe? The smell of money enters a politician's nostrils and his/her/it's moral values, patriotism and honesty are swept away.

All of the trading ports in Mexico used by the Chinese and others would not be possible if the trucking industry could not easily transport to the US and Canada from Mexico.

Therefore, there will never be any retaliation, since to do so would be to ruin the stream of cash they get from having large ports which do not have the same regulations as we have in the US. It might even make some shipments be off-loaded directly into the US ports.

I said besides Q- bec. There is no need to drive through Q-bec at all when traveling across Canada. But if you do then drive through Montreal, the signs are bilingual.

Bad news for Fredites.

http://www.mentata.com/ds/retrieve/congress/vote/VC107S17

“Truck Safety: Imposing Safety Inspections of Mexican Trucks Under NAFTA
This vote was to end a filibuster and force Senate action on the FY2002 Department of Transportation Appropriations Act (H.R. 2299). The bill, sponsored by Sens. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.), would have imposed crucial safety inspection requirements to measure compliance with U.S. safety standards that NAFTA requires be met by Mexican longhaul commercial trucking companies operating in the U.S. The bill was being filibustered by Sens. Phil Gramm (R-Texas) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) who argued it violated NAFTA. Sixty votes were needed to end the filibuster. Passed 70 Yea to 30 Nay.”

Thompson voted Nay.

I watch a Canadian sitcom called Corner Gas every night. It’s set in a little town in Saskatchewan. It’s definitely a different perspective than what most of us think of when we think of Canada. The old man on the show complains about the metric system all the time. He says “We won the war”.
