ISTANBUL, Nov. 30 A Turkish passenger jet crashed in the mountains of western Turkey early Friday, killing all 57 people on board, including several prominent nuclear physicists on their way to a conference, Turkish authorities said.
The plane, a McDonnell Douglas MD-83 operated by Atlasjet, an airline based in Istanbul, took off from Istanbul and disappeared from radar shortly before it was due to land at the airport in Isparta. It crashed about seven miles from the airport, near the town of Keciborlu, the authorities said. The cause of the crash was unclear. The weather was good, airline officials said.
The plane crashed in an area that was not on its scheduled route, according to Semsettin Uzun, the governor of Isparta Province. We dont understand how it landed there, he said.

Hmmm.... I hope they’ll find out what was the cause.
I am probably way to cynical but when a plane with Nuclear physicists goes missing in that part of the world and then crashes they might want to actually count the bodies and ensure that it didn’t make an unauthorized stop. I am sure that there are many countries and terrorist organizations in that area that would love to kidnap some nuclear physicists. Probably this was just a crash and my prayers go out to the families of everyone onboard but they should check thoroughly to ensure that things are as they appear.
Were the nuclear physicists all Turks, or also other from the region (possibly Pakis or Iranians/AQ-Khan ring members)?
We dont understand how it landed there, he said.
I believe the proper term is “crashed there”...if it had “landed there”, I suspect there’d be a survivor or two, don’t you think?

Yep, just a coinky-dink.
If this is the complete passenger list, it appears (from the names) that all were Turks.
Yes, it “crashed” there, but it seems it was not on its scheduled route — of course it could veer off, because they have a problem, but I think they would take that into account. The didn’t say how far away it was from its scheduled route.
The article also mentions:
“The plane’s wings and engines were torn off, and were found on top of the highest peak in the area, which is about 6,000 feet high and has a communications tower, said Ismail Macika, the mayor of Keciborlu. The main fuselage came to rest 500 feet below on the mountainside. “
This is also odd.
will make me go...hhhmmmm if the flight data recorder is “damaged beyond repair”
Odd that both wings were torn off. Must have been trying to fly between “twin peaks”.
Were any "friends" of the Clintons on board?
