VIENNA, Va. - Democratic leaders voted Saturday to strip Michigan of all its delegates to the national convention next year as punishment for scheduling an early presidential primary in violation of party rules.
Michigan, with 156 delegates, has scheduled a Jan. 15 primary. Democratic Party rules prohibit states other than Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina from holding nominating contests before Feb. 5.
Florida was hit with a similar penalty in August for scheduling a Jan. 29 primary.
Michigan officials anticipated the action by the Democratic National Committee's rules panel. But Michigan Democratic Chairman Mark Brewer said before the vote that he didn't think the delegates would be lost for good. He expects the Democratic presidential nominee will insist the state's delegates be seated at the convention.

Aren’t the Republicans doing the same thing? I thought I read somewhere that they were.
Michigan can choose between Hillary and throwing their delegates away.
That is what they would be doing anyway.
They do make a statement about the true face of the 'rat party. Autocratic ideological bosses with undisciplined masses.
He's got the cart before the horse, doesn't he? If the "nominee" is making the point - it's too late in the process to make a meaningful difference.
The state chairman is obviously a political amateur. These decisions are made by the national committee, the rules committee and the credentials committee.
MI people don’t care if the Democrats punish them because they are already pre-committed to the Democratic ticket.
From the article:
“The Republicans have stripped half the delegates from New Hampshire, Florida, South Carolina, Michigan and Wyoming for scheduling early primaries and caucuses. Republican rules don’t allow any states to hold nominating contests before Feb. 5.
The Republicans, however, haven’t set any restrictions on campaigning in states that violate party rules. That has some Democrats concerned that they could lose votes in Florida, the fourth largest state, and Michigan, the eighth largest.”
Yup. Exactly, this is what they want to do to the entire nation.
It's all about CONTROL.
The RATs are so corrupt in Michigan, they already have figured out Shrillary's margin of victory in November. They can count on 150% of the vote in Wayne County. All they have to do is steal either Oakland or Macomb, and they win, again.
The RAT primaries, debates, and the convention are just an opportunity for the "little people" in the RAT party to think they amount to something. When the drive-by media put RAT operatives in the RAT events, throwing puffball questions, and put RAT operatives in the pubbie events, throwing screwballs, you know this will be as scripted as a Stalin show trial.
Primaries aren’t true elections. There’s nothing in the Constitution governing them. If the parties wanted to change their rules and decide who gets the nomination by playing paper, scissors, rock then they could. Primaries are just a way for the party to decide who to fund and support in the general election.
The primary is going to happen regardless, too late to change the election (and the GOP Senate will never go along). And it will be after Iowa/NH, so all they’re doing is undermining the Michigan Democratic Party. That doesn’t seem to make much sense.
I don’t think ANY voter for HRC would care less about politicking and primary election dates. They see her as some kind of “innovative” “secular” “saint” who had rescue them from some dreadful danger.
Nor are caucuses and conventions mentioned in the Constitution either. Nor are parties! Even the word “city” is not there.
Yuk it up, but the Republicans won't be far behind. Neither party os thrilled with this race to the top of the calendar. At the current rate, the nomination will be decided before the New Year's champagne has gone flat and before the Valentine's candy is bought.
The nominating process, for both parties, is supposed to test and vet candidates. That's hard to do in a few days. If the states keep up their race to be first, the 2012 primaries will be mostly over by the end of 2010. That isn't good for anyone.
I suspect, truth be known, there is nothing democratic about these leaders.
Just look at the last election for governor.
This can only help deliver Michigan to Bush in November...
Don’t forget their backup voters, all those dead people.
hinckley buzzard >Autocratic ideological bosses with undisciplined masses.
Agreed! Just like the RNC!!!
Except for the fact that parties now have been given official standing in many states, and the primary process has been liewise co-opted by the government in many states.
