As Hillary Clinton herself might put it, it is frankly naïve to be surprised when convenient historical revisions come out of Bill Clintons mouth.
The latest retroactive adjustment is Bills claim at an Iowa event this week that he approved of Afghanistan and opposed Iraq from the beginninga revelation to the many anti-war activists who received no public help from the former President back in 2002 and 2003 when they were pilloried and ridiculed for their views.
What does it mean to oppose it if you dont verbally say you are against the war? a baffled Chris Matthews wondered on his MSNBC show on Wednesday.
It means that youre dealing with Bill Clinton, the same guy who smoked marijuana without inhaling and who maneuvered his way out of Vietnam only to declare with a straight face, I put myself into the draft. I didn't take it out.
Some of Mr. Clintons defenders have pointed to a few quotes from 2003 that, they insist, validate Mr. Clintons claim in its entirety. Of course, they ignore other quotes that suggest just the opposite, just as they ignore what is glaringly obvious to anyone whose memory extends back to the start of this decade: When the Bush White House was beating the drums for war, Bill Clinton was silent.
Weve been down this road before.
The 1992 presidential race, you may recall, played out in the aftermath of the triumphant first Gulf War. Unlike the current Iraq war, which was rubber-stamped by a bipartisan majority (including, of course, Hillary Clinton), the Gulf War was a matter of fierce Congressional debate, with only 11 Senate Democrats voting to authorize it. (The resolution cleared on a 54-46 vote.)

It’s probably just an enhanced way to meet chicks.
Yep, and Bill Clinton was so good at keeping his mouth shut on his opposing views.
When Bubba shaves in the morning, he must use two razors at the same time.
Monica walks into her dry cleaning store and tells the guy, “I’ve got another dress for you to clean.”
Slightly hard of hearing, the clerk replies, “Come again?”
“No,” says Monica. “Mustard.”
I think that his brain is melting down; soon we will see the guy lead away drooling and muttering to himself.
they seem to remember this era far differently than I do. They seem to see themselves as vindicated martyrs of some sort.
Until very recently, dems could lie and get away with it — the MSM and CNN looked away when it was one of their own. Not so easy anymore..
Ala Jimmah Cahtah.
when ur bill, u can do that.
Does he have an aide that helps him keep track of his lies or has the coke finally caught-up with him and memory is just a sometimes useful tool?
Great piece and a good reminder of what we can look forward to should Hillary make it through to the presidency. The writer might have also mentioned that Hillary was prescient enough in anticipating Bill’s reversal and tax-hike (retroactive to the beginning of 1993, even before he was sworn in as president), that she took her Rose Law Firm bonus early (December of 1992) thus avoiding the impact of that tax-hike. What’s the old expression... “character is revealed by what you do when nobody is looking”? The Clintons don’t care even if everyone is looking.
Man, she has a hard slap.
Bill Clinton: “Am I gonna get some ACTION tonight?”
“The Clintons dont care even if everyone is looking.”
And that’s the scary part. The public has been so conditioned that nowadays any Clinton wrongdoings are greeted with a chuckle and a “Oh look, they’re at it again” - meaning SO WHAT?
If he was a dairy farmer, he’d probably have to get somebody else to call his cows in to be milked.
Dear Lord, please do not allow this man and woman to bring their lies and deceit back to the capitol of the U.S.
I beseech thee.
Amen.
