Will Fred commit to building a fence and secure the border?

Most of the hard core, drug trade, illegals already come through tunnels - not over the open border. With over 800 miles of border - plenty of room for more tunnels = In this day of technology, I'd rather the money went to electronic surveillance - much less expensive and better able to detect and apprehend.

Interesting. Thanks for posting. That's my gut feeling about the situation too.

In my discussions with people about electability, it seems that the more informed and steeped in politics the person is, the more likely they are to over-analyze minutiae. They impute to an uninformed electorate the same level of interest and understanding of the issues as they have. They compare candidates in terms of their degrees of conservatism in each tiny aspect--concluding that we need a centrist like Giulani in order to take Ohio and put NY and CA in play.

The big flaw in this thinking, imho, is the assumption that the needed electorate actually knows and understands and analyzes and weighs the details of a candidate's position on each of the issues. The truth is probably much closer to what your D friend expressed. The vast majority of voters go on impressions and emotion, not facts.

Contrast with the Huckster’s open borders rhetoric as exposed by Michelle Malkin on her website.

Have we become so used to postulating, finger pointing, raised voice candidates/politicians that we think someone who talks to use in an even voice, as though we were intelligent enough to understand without being yelled at, - doesn't have 'conviction'?
When most other GOP candidates speak, they do it with conviction, but not shrill demagoguery or finger pointing.
I'm not talking about angry and sanctimonious posturing like the Democrats and Ron Paul. Fred comes across like a guy who has all the answers but doesn't really want to be there and isn't in it to win.

I like Thompson best, but I have real concerns about him being another Bob Dole. This is why he's now running 3rd or 4th in the polls, instead of 1st or 2nd.

You can ask these rhetorical questions all you want, but it's not going to help Fred's position in the race any.

I do think that Fred’s detailed position on illegal immigrants is spot-on, comprehensive, and the best of the entire bunch. On the other hand, I think that his position on abortion is infuriatingly inadequate, and while better than Rudy’s, fails to meet the standard of protecting basic human rights throughout the land. His observation that the ultimate goal is both distant and arduous is correct, but that does not diminish its importance. And his ignorance of the very similar issues in the Terry Schiavo case is equally troubling.

"politicians would have nothing to do!!!"

Actually, if laws were enforced, most of them would be making license plates.

It’s pretty exasperating to watch that stuff so I just tune it out altogether. I already know who I am going to vote for. FRED THOMPSON... NO MATTER WHAT anyone else says or does... HE IS THE MAN!!

In my opinion, one of our most colorful presidents in history used a line that I very much admire and try to adhere to: “Speak softly and carry a big stick”. Now Fred is no Teddy Roosevelt but I have confidence in his judgement and integrity in leading the nation. Fred will get my vote.

Join Duncan Hunter to restore the GOP to its conservative roots. Our borders can be secure, our sovereignty preserved, our industrial base restored, our unborns rescued, and our Christian family values kept whole. Duncan Hunter always puts America first. Duncan Hunter "will never apologize for America." Let's help him get the job done for all of our sakes.

Ugh...do y'all keep those sappy phrases on file so you can cut and paste them? See my #59...I think not. Not only does he not have any support to speak of, he's got too much baggage, especially his relationship with Duke Cunningham.

This has begun to bother me. We seem to be approaching these candidates with something of an “American Idol” entertainment mentality. If I want entertainment I’ll watch Dennis Kucinich give a speech or hug his wife.

I am independent, leaning toward Republican as time goes by but undecided. Having said that, I have been impressed with how Thompson has put out a number of proposal papers on different issues. We don’t have to agree with him, but at least he has the guts to open his positions up to fair scrutiny. (Unlike Hillary, who, as far as I can tell, doesn’t have any positions.)

The whole thing was a stage production for Rudy. I sure it saddens them that Rudy stunk. The only thing that CNN really accomplished was keeping their top tier candidates in focus. This is how the media controls us all every freepin' year.

If nothing else..this proves that the Internet is losing the media wars.

Baseless accusations and insinuations. All hype no substance. I understand why you like Huckabee. He’s like a Republican Clinton.

So, if Huckabee is right on open borders, why then is he now campaigning as tough in immigration?

And why is he now chastising Fred for not supporting the Human Life Amendment when just a couple of years ago Huckabee was about leaving abortion to the states?

Lying for Jesus maybe?

The conservative support for Huckabee is proof positive that the MSM controls our minds. They ignore Fred, a strong candidate with strong conservative credentials, and push Huckabee, a pro-life, open borders, fiscal liberal with a terrible record who has no chance of winning the general election. People follow the MSM like dogs. It’s sad.
