Sappy phrases? I suppose that you don't think securing our border is important? That preserving our sovereignty isn't important? That restoring our industrial base isn't important? You don't think that protecting the unborns is important? You don't think that Christian family values are important? You don't think that putting America's interest first is important? Are you that apathetic? Surely you're not. Neither am I, so I support Duncan Hunter.
If Duke Cunningham, the DP2 plane, and McMillin development in San Diego is the best that you can come up with to discredit Duncan Hunter, that's pretty pathetic. Duncan Hunter has never been implicated in the Duke Cunningham/Brent Wilkes congressional bribery scandal. More than 100 other members of the House and Senate – Republicans and Democrats – also accepted money from Wilkes, former MZM Inc. president Mitchell Wade, their relatives, employees or political action committees, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a campaign watchdog group. In December 2005, Hunter directed that the contributions his campaign received from Wilkes and Wade be given to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. If anything that Hunter was guilty of, was putting American interest first. In this case, Duncan Hunter was for an American company instead of the German based company to get the contract. Hunter remained an advocate the American-made product of Tom Casey's Audre. Hunter asked the Pentagon’s chief purchasing officer to whenever possible, use products that are made in the United States by American taxpayers. Hunter was never found to be involved with the Duke Cunningham scandal and never took any bribe.
Regarding the Dupont Aerospace DP2 Vectored Thrust Aircraft, Hunter testified before the Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight of the Committee on Science and Technology. Yes, the DP-2 program was scrubbed, but the committee found no conflict of interest on Hunter's part. Again, if there was anything Duncan Hunter was guilty of was putting American military interests first. In his unyielding support for our military to be equipped with superior technology, Hunter believed that if the DP-2 worked out, it would have been able to transport troops as fast as 724 mph, more than twice as fast as the V-22 Osprey and four times as fast as the CH-46 helicopter that are currently being used. If perfected, the DP-2 could fly 2,500 nautical miles, several times the range of the CH-46 helicopter, which is being replaced by the V-22 Osprey. Regarding the McMillin land development deal in San Diego, yes Duncan Hunter, who was chairman of the military procurement subcommittee, helped to draft the bill that carried the no-cost provision for military land. It opened a window of time during which San Diego and 20 other municipalities got land for free from the Navy. Isn't one the job of a Congressman is to get favorable fundings for your constituency for local projects? Call it pork barrel politics if you like but when the Navy had no further need for the old Naval Training Center in Point Loma San Diego, Duncan Hunter was able to get the land for free for the city. However, the decision to go with McMillin, a local San Diego company that had been there for 40 yrs., vs. Lennar Corp., a publicly traded company based in Florida, was a local decision made by the city council. The city gave due consideration to a local developer. Big whoopteedooo. There's nothing illegal here, move on Bub.
