Why has Mike Huckabee turned to something akin to the plague by some on FR?
FR postings | November 28, 2007 | Dane

Posted on 11/28/2007 1:52:17 PM PST by Dane

It's amazing, Mike Huckabee is one of the few politicians who would give the time of day to FR,

Gov. Huckabee's Thank you Letter to FReeper

and yet by some on FR they in mindless hyperbolic posts basically compare him to the plague.

JMO, some FReepers prove the axioms of "fair weather friends" and "no good deed goes unpunished" and also "watch your back", very true.

Huckabee is what Fred Thompson (IIRC) has called him: A pro-life, pro-gun liberal. His attitude on immigration is just bloody horrible.

I’ll take him over any of the Dems any day, but it’s ludicrous to pretend that we should give him our allegiance just because he’s a nice guy.

I agree. And like Clinton, there’s just waaaay too much bible thumping going on with Huckabee. And just a little too much, “Awww shucks.” Nauseating.

I agree, he isn't running for Preacher in Chief. While it is perfectly acceptable to reference faith in many situations, a President is suppose to be Commander in Chief, and be leader of a nation. Huckabee seems to have found his niche when he was a preacher. That's not a bad thing to be!

Plus he is an health Nazi....

Health Nazis are PETA vegans on crack. I have a boss who wants to totally ban all tobacco because of the health consequences, but who sneers at those who advocate sexual abstinence outside of marriage because of all the health risks brought by promiscuous sex of all varieties.

He’s worse then Bush on immigration and you are asking that question? Don’t you remember the uproar on this board when Bush was pushing amnesty?

I'm going to say this for the 56th time. I understand that Mike and his band played at the FReeper Presidential inaugural Ball (smart political move by an elected official who planned on pursuing higher office to get to know grass root conservatives).

I was not here but I'm sure long time FReepers thank him and enjoyed meeting him. He seems like a nice guy. If I ever met Mike during his soon to be retirement from public service, I'm sure that we would have a nice Sushi lunch after I beat him at racquetball. It's nothing personal

This is not American Idol or a High School "Battle of the Bands". If it were then it would be...

Huckabee is a Giuliani without the abortion baggage.

As usual, when anybody starts the "Aw shucks, I'm just a country boy" bullshiite, check your wallet. The chicken, pig, and soybean product people in Arkansas need illegal immigrant labor, and the bible-wanker Huckster will accomodate them.

Not a recommendation for President.

There is a difference. Huck looks like he just spotted a smoker in the back of the room. Bill looks like he just spotted a hot chick in the front row.

Kenny says: “Huckabee is a Giuliani without the abortion baggage.”

Dixiechick agrees.

You could not be more wrong if you tried. They are polar opposites. One is a social liberal and fiscal conservative, the other is a fiscal liberal and social conservative.

Actually, I was comparing Rudy with Huck.

But since you brought it up, Bill Clinton was actually a centrist compared to Huck. He passed the NAFTA agreement and slowed down federal spending a bit.

I’ll give you NAFTA, but spending cuts were the work of the GOP majority under Gingrich.

Good point. Bill was dragged kicking and screaming to pass some of those budgets by the GOP controlled Congress.

Hannity actually pointed that out when a caller brought it up years ago. This was of course before he became an RNC cheerleader.

So...your point is?

They both suck.

Rudy is a New York Italian version of Clinton.

Perhaps a lot of Freepers found out what his actual positions on the Issues of the Day are.

I think you misheard Rush. I heard him say yesterday that he liked all the tax plans like Boortz’s Fair Tax and Forbes’ Flat Tax.

RUSH: Okay, let me ask you a question about this. Now, a lot of people said, “Wow, good answer.” Are we ever going to get rid of the IRS? Are we ever going to get rid of the current tax code? I hate to be a bummer, and I’m not giving up on this, but I just want to tell you what the challenge is. I know, because there’s all these advocates out there of the flat tax and the Fair Tax, and I like ‘em all. I like Neal Boortz and John Linder’s idea, the FairTax; Steve Forbes and his flat tax. They’re all out there, but (sigh), my friends... and I know people are saying, “Why don’t you lead on this? Why don’t you lead on it? If it’s something that can’t be done, only you can get it not done,” and that is this: If you expect these members of the House of Representatives, people like Charles Rangel and everybody on the Ways and Means Committee, to give up that power — they’re the ones that write the tax code, and their lobbyist buddies — that’s the greatest single power these guys have, and to give that up, on their own, for whatever valid, valorous reasons? It ain’t going to happen. We’re talking social architecture. We’re talking punishment of political enemies. We are talking reward for political friends. To give up the social architecture — and for somebody to actually come to an elected official, and say, “We’re going to get rid of the IRS,” that’s something that is not going to happen.”

My point was, neither one is going to happen.
