It's amazing, Mike Huckabee is one of the few politicians who would give the time of day to FR,
Gov. Huckabee's Thank you Letter to FReeper
and yet by some on FR they in mindless hyperbolic posts basically compare him to the plague.
JMO, some FReepers prove the axioms of "fair weather friends" and "no good deed goes unpunished" and also "watch your back", very true.
You must consider W a RINO. I don’t. Huckabee is not a RINO.
Correct on the first one. Wrong on the second. The Hucksters stance on illegals, government health care, and a slew of other issues show him up to be no better than Rudy or Willard.
Your protestations to the contrary don't make him a conservative. His own record damns him.
Dane, you ask a serious question and I will give a serious answer, if you’d like, without name calling or snide remarks.
Mike Huckabee seems like a genuinely good man. He is good on 2A, abortion, and some foreign policy issues. His support for the FairTax is OK but I am not sold on the FairTax anymore anyway.
It’s more of a total picture thing. He doesn’t seem to have much real desire to do anything about the bloated federal government, or cut spending or taxes where it’s necessary. He’s also weak on the immigration issue, but even if we set that aside, I just think we can do a LOT better. Fred, Romney, Hunter and even McCain score more points overall with me than Huckabee does in this regard.
There is a whole laundry list of fiscally non-conservative things that Huckabee has done as governor in Arkansas.
His social record is good as is his record on 2A issues. I will give him props for that. However, he fails on most other issues. The Club for Growth, who often does and says things that I am not 100% in agreement with, is, regardless, the foremost organization on fiscal responsibility and for the most part I trust their rankings. He gets an “F” from them. Not a “C,” not a “D,” but an “F.”
Fred gets an A from CFG and is far better on the size and scope of government issue. Is he good enough? No, but nobody really is, nevertheless, Fred is heads and shoulders better than any of the rest of the field on this matter.
And Ron Paul doesn’t really count.
The plague would be easier to deal with.
He’s a lying liberal.
I will agree with you on your opinion of Corsi.
Me: “You must consider W a RINO”
You: “Correct”
Okay, now we are getting somewhere. So, you consider the president who is fighting the war on terror a RINO; the president who has cut taxes consistently is a RINO in your opinion; the president who is true to his values and does not speak with a forked tounge in your opinion is a RINO.
Huckabee is like W on these issues, and neither Huckabee nor W qualify as a RINO.
However, people who want to slap down high school kids who grew up in America by setting up discriminatory obstacles preventing them from attending University, W and Huckabee both disagree with those people on this issue, but that does not make them a RINO.
Correctomundo. Iow, "meet the new boss, same as the old boss." GWB's twin. "Compassionate conservatism" yet again. Enough is enough.
GWB used that exact same hypnotic technique back in '99 and '00. ...and of course it worked brilliantly. Thump that Bible with enthusiasm and watch the poll numbers rise. Lesson never learned.
I had to laugh when he was asked why he gave benefits to the kids of illegals, he ran around the issue. He admitted, as a guy who gave scholarships to illegal immigrants, he’d do the same for the kids of illegal alien military vets. (Best part: Everyone heckles Huckabee for addressing the giant YouTube screen as if it’s alive.) Seems he got hypnotized by giant screen like I almost did by him.
I have to admit, that when I first started reading (hearing) criticism of Huckabee on FR, I was shocked. I had to ask myself, “Is this the same guy that played at the 2004 Free Republic Inaugural Ball in Washington D.C.?”
Yes, it was (is). But this doesn’t mean he should be given some kind of “free pass” from any and all “inconvenient truths”. That is, if there are some valid facts that clearly show he is not as conservative as any Republican should be (at least in the primary race), then they should be at least addressed.
Myself, I haven’t really been following anything with Huckabee in particular, or the back and forth that has dominated FR in the last year generally speaking, about many other candidates other than Thompson and Hunter. Particularly, after the whole Thompson=”abortionist” brew-ha-ha. I mean, to pick on one job done 14 years ago in an indirect...nevermind.
Nevermind. I’ve really quit trying to find any kind of unity here for now, and am just going to do what I’ve intended to do all along: Quietly vote for Duncan Hunter in the primary, and be happy to vote for anyone but Guiliani in the general election.
This constant bickering makes for interesting drama, but it gets tiresome after a while. Someone ping me when we’re a unified front again.
Thanks.
The one pushing for open borders, Shamnesty for illegals, has done nothing constructive in the way of restoring RKBA and has in fact upper persecution of FFL's to levels Clinton never dared, is continuing to give money to countries like Syria is multi-billion dollar give-aways and yet continues to hamper Israels very right to exist, who didn't bother even threatening to use his Veto powers until his beloved Shamesty bill was on being threatened. Who continues to push unConstitutional legislation like "No Child Left Behind" despite there being ZERO power in the Constitution for such legislation to exist...
Yeah... He's a RINO. Huck-a-buck is even worse, although slightly better on RKBA issues.
It isn't about "slapping" anyone down you moron. It's about the rule of law. The kids parents broke the law bringing him here, something you've already been caught lying about. Now you expect him to get preferential treatment over those who were born here.
So yeah... I'd say that not only qualifies you as a "liberal", but possibly fits you into the "Evil, Stupid, or Insane" categories as well.
You: “I had to laugh when he was asked why he gave benefits to the kids of illegals, he ran around the issue.”
Huckabee: “We are better than punishing the children for the crimes of the parents.”
Huckabee’s response was spot on.
Have you personally stepped up to the plate ie donated some of your income, joined a private charity and donated personal time etc to help these kids, or are you one of these “compassionate with other people’s dollars” type of people ?
I’d pay an extra dollar per lettcue-head if I knew Huck was out there pickin’ it. ...especially if pics were available.
Do you have any links to any acknowledgement he’s made of his mistakes and his proposed solutions to said mistakes ?
Thanks for the info BTW
“Oh yeah, and again JMO, some Freepers make this person below, look actually stable.”
Well,...they look pretty balanced to me?
So when the kids turn 18, are considered adults under the law, we’re supposed to ignore that they are illegal too ?
Sorry, illegal is illegal, period. You can’t just be sorta kinda partially illegal. Either you are or you aren’t; it’s fairly black and white.
