I think it is encouraging that the hospices are willing to repay millions and risk going out of business because their patients are still alive. They value life or that wouldn’t be the case.

I doubt very seriously that hospice professionals have any influence upon the decision that a person is “dying” and turned over to hospice. This is a decision for Medical Doctors. So if Hospice does not choose the begining of their charge, they can only be held resposible for the END. Looks like our wonderful nanny state is actually punishing the hospice caregivers for failing to terminate their charges. Tell me I’m wrong. Please.

...they value life...

Of course then there is Terry Schiavo. She was in a Hospice facility, wasn't she?

Terry Schiavo was killed by the husband and the courts, not hospice. They were only following legal orders.

I like your plan as to where to find the money. And it has no negative consequences. Good plan.

But mainly I was frustrated by the impression that solutions are simplier than they really are, i.e., "There aught to be a law" and that's all it takes.

The mindless mantra of "Housing/Health Care/Internet Porn Is A Basic Human Right" type of justification.

Knowing the difference between right and wrong is pretty simple about 99.9% of the time. Living it out isn't always easy.

True but there are many non profit hospice organizations that exist. I work for one, and oh, did I mention it’s the ONLY faith based organization of it’s kind in my state?

So by non-profit, you mean they don't take money from Medicare/Medicaid? If they do, they are affected by this as well.

How can the caps be raised without hospice being turned into medicare provided nursing home care for all?

Through the entrance criteria. As you indicated, "Possibly the admission requirements should be more closely controlled." But no matter how tightly they are controlled, sometimes people are going to live longer than expected. In those cases, Medicare should step up to the plate and pay the bills.

I would also like for my country to stay out of bankruptcy.

Me too. There are plenty of things we could cut (i.e., aid to the Palestinians, funding for Planned Parenthood and the Endowment for the Arts) to provide for any additional monies needed.

“So by non-profit, you mean they don’t take money from Medicare/Medicaid? If they do, they are affected by this as well.”

M and M pay for what they’ll pay for, the hospice pays whatever is directly related to the diagnosis the patient has been admitted for. And not for profit means exactly that not for profit.

If they accept Medicare money, then a non-profit hospice is affected by this.

If you say so.

For a hospice, death means money.
