Wow, don’t think I’ve ever heard of Dengler. The MSM did a damned good job ignoring this hero for forty years... Can’t tell the sheeple any stories that’ll fill them with pride and patriotism, ‘ya know? Definitely want to see the movie.

It makes me sick that heroic soldiers are treated like dirt in this country by the same people who idolize movie stars.

May he rest in peace.

What an amazing story!

Marine pilots heading to Vietnam were required to read "The Dengler Debrief", a report classified "Confidential" at the time.

I hope Hollywood doesn’t screw up the movie like they did with “Bat 21”. The tale of Bat 21 was so incredible, I always wondered why Hollywood produced such a hokey movie “based on a true story” instead of simply telling the true story.

“Rescue Dawn” just came out on DVD this week. It’s a movie worth owning. Christian Bale gives an absolutely phenomenal performance as Dengler. Between that and “3:10 to Yuma,” he’s given two amazing Oscar-winning performances this year.

Dengler was born in Germany and lived through the post-war period there, which is part of the reason that he survives. He moved to America because he loved its freedom and optimism, and he knew that he could learn to fly professionally. His fierce love for his adopted land is one of the reasons that his spirit was so consistently strong.

This movie was truly inspiring. It was in the local theaters for several weeks when it was released, at least here in NJ. I’m going to give the DVD as a Christmas present to some of my relatives who never got a chance to see it. It’s well worth the shelf space.

Bloodied and broken, he was asked by Pathet Lao officials to sign a document condemning America, but still he refused, so the torture intensified.

Which makes me angrier and angrier at John Fn Kerry!

It is impossible for me to say how sad this makes me feel. To have withstood all that, why did he have to die in 2001?
