Accusations of racism in a Lee's Summit high school have lead to suspensions, but now the parents say their kids were unfairly punished.
Travis Grigsby loves playing drums, but he and his friend Alex Coday weren't able to play for two weeks after they were suspended. It started after the band's performance at a football game. Some kids on the drum line said they were talking about the best knots to use to tie up the drum equipment.
"Someone asked if anybody knew how to tie a noose and Travis did admit he knew how to tie a noose," Kim Grigsby said.
Travis' mom said her son is almost an Eagle Scout, he knew how to tie it, but told his friends he wouldn't because you could get in trouble for that. Later, a black student on the drum line told the teacher he was offended.
"Travis was accused of using a racial slur for saying the word 'noose.' Then he was suspended for 10 days," Kim said.

My sister got bit by a noose...
A noose once bit my sister.
25 seconds! LOL!
Public school officials appear to be wonderfully devoid of any knowledge of history that extends back before yesterday's headlines.
These people should be locked up for their own protection and some real human beings brought in to take their places.
My first reaction was outrage, but I suppose it depends on what they actually said.
In the Boy Scouts, you learn how to tie a slipknot, which works like a noose. I don’t know if they still teach people how to tie a noose. I think I recall learning how when I was a boy.
Could come in handy for hanging cattle rustlers.
The noose mingled with the crowd very well...
That’s right up there with someone being FIRED for making a “racial slur” when they used the word “niggardly.”
Wasn’t Bullwinkle a noose?
Noose: There I said it. I'm a racist.
JimRob needs to ban me now for breaking the rules

sue the school for over reaction!
What's in the future?
Back in 1990 while working for a large, hyper-sensitive company in NJ, I was researching some third party computer hardware and mentioned the master\slave configuration of the various components in a presentation. Later my boss explained I should not be using that term because I could offend some of my co-workers.
I predict someday the words master, slave, noose, etc. will all be cleansed from our language and will probably be a punishable crime if used. BTW, how does Mark Twain still get away with it?
Big deal. The noose is one of the easiest knots to tie.
.."this is going to get out of hand"
Freedom of speech seems to have limitations in some places.....time to send these 'kids' off to boot camp where they could have something real to complain about. Noose now takes place along side the derivative of people from Niger as a supposed insult
I hate to think about all those horse thieves etc. who were strung up
every one in the good old days knew how to make a noose. Who told that kid that life was all about him? Dumb, dumb and dumber
.
One of my gal’s friends(Chinese American) has twins in the 3rd grade. Both straight A, hard-working students. Teacher loves the little girl, and hates the little boy. He’s very out-spoken! They were given a homework project to make a little book about something they liked. The boy rushed home and immediately started drawing about Japanese Anime’ stuff. He drew some of the bizarre, futuristic weapons used by some of the cartoon characters. Teacher sent him home, called the parents and bitc-ed at them for an hour about “no tolerance.”
I told my girl that I would have shown “no tolerance” for the teacher or the school, and would have yelled at them for at least an hour!
Or any kind of common sense. It seems easier to suspend kids for nothings than to take the time to sit them down together and work things out. How they are handling situations like this are doing the kids a mis-service that only fosters racism and resentment toward each other.
"Travis was accused of using a racial slur for saying the word 'noose.' Then he was suspended for 10 days," Kim said.
This is utterly ridiculous!!
