Man And Nature: Enviro-fanatics are sterilizing themselves to reduce their "carbon footprint." We dread where their nihilistic ideology — that mankind is an evil planetary force — will lead next.
It was no Monty Pythonesque spoof. Two years earlier, despite being on birth-control pills, Vernelli got pregnant and had an abortion because "it would have been immoral to give birth to a child that I felt strongly would only be a burden to the world."
"Having children is selfish," the now-35-year-old says.
A vegetarian by age 15, Vernelli met her husband at an animal rights demo; on the morning of her sterilization, he gave her a "Congratulations" card.
Each new child, she says, "uses more food, more water, more land, more fossil fuels, more trees and produces more rubbish, more pollution, more greenhouse gases, and adds to the problem of over-population."
What a depressing take on the value of human life. But it was echoed by another eco-crazed couple profiled by the Mail.
Sarah Irving, a 31-year-old green magazine editor, and Mark Hudson, a 37-year-old health care worker, reminisced about how, "after a year of dating, we started talking about sterilization."

Media-industrial complex !
Wait - I've done that. LMAO.
Love those beavers.
Hey Toni, I have seven kids! (insert evil laugh here)
This is...horrible. This woman is clearly deranged. Sure, the environMENTAL movement attracts the less intellectually equipped, but I suspects it was more chance than conviction that this woman choose to attach herself to this particular cause. If she hadn’t stumbled onto those vampires, it would have been something equally destructive. And shame on the man who obviously pushed her to do this to herself.
Well at least they are self selecting themselves for discontinuing their particular line. There’s a silver lining in every cloud!
My neighbors have fourteen and another one on the way.
Question of the day: Has he irreversibly sterilized himself too? Or is he keeping his options open?
Unfortunately, Toni's child was not given a choice in this matter, but as long as it is voluntary, in general I have no problem with this movement, even if I disagree with its premise. Of course, the first thing they will compromise on eventually is the word "voluntary."
This is what I posted on an earlier thread about her:
What?
You mean it was morally wrong to kill an innocent child she created through her recklessness because it would be a burden to the world?
That when she was faced with the choice of killing herself or someone else as to not be a burden on the world that she chose someone else to die?
And all along she says shes not selfish?
This is where adolescent leftest thought gets you. Living a total contradiction, unable to see it and the results being dead people - all with the best intentions...
Absolutely. Eco-icon Paul Ehrlich (author of The Population Bomb(1968) and its assorted sequels) advocated the forcible sterilization of men in India and many other draconian measures, including genocide by neglect, to deal with what he saw as an approaching catastrophe.
He also predicted that pesticide use would reduce US life expectancy to 42 by 1980, there would be food-rationing here by the 90s, and we would be out of oil long before either of these.
Indees. And we all know what the road to hell is paved with.
How can someone so stupid still manage to exist?
There goes the lefty whine that “it’s all for the children.”
That one was a little stale, so now “it’s all for the planet.”
And?......the card he purchased took how much fossil fuel to freight to his favorite enviro friendly card shop....no wait....I got it.....they were delivered by bicycles.....made of extruded aluminum and a composite fiber seat.
OK...maybe the seat was plastic...no that's not any good....
OK!!! I got it! It was made from a tanned animal hide....no that's not good.....it was.....
And so on, and so on.
Has anyone ever figured out how much natural resources we might save if the enviros would just shut the f@#&k up!!!
I think this is wonderful. Those that don’t want kids don’t have them (and are usually liberal). Those that want kids have them (Usually conservative). The liberal/kid hating problem self corrects within two generations.
No, but it could be a lot just based on a certain hypocritical parking problem of theirs.
The truly sincere and unselfish thing would have been for her to have the kid, give it to some real parents, then dispose of herself in some environmentally benign way.
I would suggest the middle of the ocean, where her bio-mass would be quickly and efficiently recycled for the benefit of more deserving organisms.
