With our new early primaries in California (Feb. 5) it is starting to concern me that I'm not really jazzed about any of the GOP candidates yet. I want to be, and I'd like to help out with someone's campaign. But who should I like?
The only one who has any mojo in the Jewish community around here is Rudy. Rudy is well liked in the Jewish community in NY because of what he did there, but he's liked all around because of his tough talk when Arafat was still around and his very clear pro-Israel stance. Naturally, the war-on-islamo-fascism is a major concern as well, and Rudy seems believable when he says he's going to be strong and aggressive. Whenever the subject of the candidates comes up, if anyone is working on a campaign or even vaguely interested in someone, it's Rudy.
My concerns about Rudy are that I'm not sure he won't end up appointing some liberal judges and I think the liberal court system is doing a lot of damage to the moral and social fiber of the country. And he has shown himself to be a gun-grabber, which is a sign of someone who gets caught up in the emotionality of an issue rather than the facts.
Romney apparently gave a powerhouse speech in Israel not too long ago and Mormons tend to be very pro-Israel, but he has a tendency to sound like John Edwards in that he seems to say whatever he thinks you want to hear at that moment. When Michael Medved has interviewed him Romney hasn't always given straight-forward answers to things, and that makes me wonder what he would really do in the White House.
Regarding the push-polling controversy, I know some people are wondering if Romney's campaign did it themselves, but I don't know. I have seen push-polling work and the culprits get away with it-- case in point, here in LA, there were anti-Jewish calls made to voters when Steve Soboroff was running for mayor, suggesting that he got all his financial backing from the Jews. Nothing was done about it, and he lost.
I just don't know that much about Fred, but I did like the web commerical I saw about getting tough on the borders. I'll believe it when I see it, though. I think I'd be fine if Fred were the President, but again, his record isn't clear to me.
John McCain-- recently, he has said some things to make me like him somewhat. He answers questions directly, which is refreshing. I don't care if he's a hothead, but it concerns me that any of the press likes him. And his campaign finance reform is a disaster. And the gang of 14 stunt he pulled was disgraceful.
Huckabee sounds like a nice guy, but a populist and a "compassionate conservative"-- meaning, he wants to take money from us and give it away to other people to make himself feel good.
Duncan Hunter-- I like him, but where is he?

"LOOK NO FURTHER, BABY!"
Mr. Hunter is helping to keep America safe...
Keeping America safe is a full time job.
Duncan has these rinos number....I have contributed to his campaign....I intend to contribute again.
Duncan Hunter....Peace Through Strength!
I urge you to learn about this Man. Mr. Hunter has a record of Conservatism. Mr. Hunter does not disappoint!
Sadly it doesn’t look like this will be Duncan’s year. Unless the alternative media can light a match under his campaign.
The same conventional media that told us how McCain was doing so well in 2000 and how they had “proof” that Bush was AWOL from the National Guard and now tells us how smart Hillary is and assured of winning the Democrat nomination tells us who the “leaders” of the Republican race are.
Of course they want to direct us who to choose. So get the word out by other means.
There are bands that don’t get commercial radio airplay who could still pack a big arena for a live show. The secret is constant touring.
Duncan needs to get out more. More visibility. More exposure of his positions and more public speaking.
And if his exposure turns people off to him as the “dark horse” outsider candidate, so be it. But at least we won’t be saying “what if” and “if only...”.
California Eminent Domain Reform Ballot Measure Turns in Signatures
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Californians for Property Rights Protection announced today that they are submitting more than one million signatures to qualify the California Property Owners and Farmland Protection Act (CPOFPA) for the June 2008 ballot. This eminent domain reform measure will stop government from taking homes, family farms, small business and places of worship and giving the land to other private interests.
"We are submitting this ballot measure to prevent government from snatching private property from unwilling sellers to benefit wealthy and politically connected developers," said former Senator Jim Nielsen and chairman of the California Alliance to Protect Private Property Rights. "California law needs to be changed to protect all California property owners from eminent domain abuse."
The only 2 I can say that keep my interest are Hunter and Thompson. The rest are RINO’s, IMO.
A Guiliani nomination would be huge mistake by the party.
I heard a guy on the radio yesterday who is trying to get the anchor baby 14 Amendment topic on the ballot here. He gave a website to sign the petition but I forgot what it is.
Life isn't about winning and losing, it's about doing the right thing; training ourselves to know how to do things as well as how to determine what's right.
It may be the last one that's really the problem.
I agree.
Either Hunter or Thompson.
The others are pretenders not worthy of a conservatives support or vote.
Look, I’m willing to vote for an underdog, but is Duncan going to even still be in the race in Feb.? I could totally see myself voting for him if he is.
Duncan Hunter.
I think it’s too early. This is a weird season.
“Duncan Hunter— I like him, but where is he?”
Exactly my feelings.
Here in Iowa, Romney has an absolute machine for an organization. Romney is a flexible valued liberal trying to look conservative.
If Hunter had Romney’s machine, it wouldn’t even be close...
And what happens after the primaries? Because according to the polls: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/ia/iowa_republican_caucus-207.html#polls
Hunter doesn’t even register.
Does anyone like anyone besides Hunter?
Does anyone like anyone besides Hunter?
You said, “With Mojo.”
No Mojo out there except with Duncan.
Grin!
There are only 3 Republicans who could conceivably win the nomination. Giuliani is a liberal, Romney has always been a liberal, who says that he has just recently converted to conservative on some issues. Fred Thompson was drafted by conservatives eager for a conservative candidate.
Among the others, Huckabee is a liberal who is conservative on abortion and guns. McCain is a former conservative who for the last seven years has often sided with Democrats. Tancredo and Hunter are conservative but, for whatever reasons, never really got into the race.
It is truly shocking that many Republicans are backing liberal candidates. It indicates the confusion and discord in the Republican party twenty years after Ronald Reagan.
So then you like.... Thompson?
