NEW YORK (AP) Bill O'Reilly thinks American troops aren't getting enough support from the USO.
After a surreptitious trip to Afghanistan last weekend, the cantankerous Fox News Channel commentator told The Associated Press that he's disappointed that the United Service Organizations "doesn't put anybody out there (in Afghanistan)."
"I went to thank these guys on behalf of me and my audience," he said in an interview from Istanbul, Turkey. "As far as I know, the only famous people in the past year were (country music singer) Toby Keith and me."
The USO the organization that famously brought Bob Hope to Vietnam and Marilyn Monroe to Korea did not immediately return calls seeking comment. The group has been active sending comedians and professional golfers on entertainment tours to bases in the Persian Gulf.
O'Reilly, who flew to Afghanistan on Friday to visit Camp Eggers in Kabul and Bagram Air Base, has long been upbeat about the U.S. mission there. He has also been an impassioned supporter of the troops, unwilling to recognize any shades of gray when it comes to expressing opinion on the Armed Forces.

“As far as I know, the only famous people in the past year were (country music singer) Toby Keith and me.”
Once again, BOR didn’t do his homework, made a dumb remark, and looks ridiculous.
Quite afew ‘celebrities’ have been to Afghanistan in recent memory, like Rush Limbaugh.
“He has also been an impassioned supporter of the troops, unwilling to recognize any shades of gray when it comes to expressing opinion on the Armed Forces.”

What a load of liberal editorializing crap! Is this a NEWS story? Does this tell us what the MSM really thinks about the military?
That’s very true, but I’m not sure Rush went there on the USO’s dime. I contribute to the USO, because I think they do great work for our troops, and they send me info on their “celebrity” tours. They may not all be “famous,” like that blowhard O’Reilly thinks he is, but they send pretty women singers, and funny comediens, and dancers, etc. who I hope are entertaining for our military.
I’m pretty sure Gary Sinese has been over as well
Rush was there, but it was 2-3 years ago, I think. O’Reilly stated “in the past year”.
Yep.
Sinese, and I seem to recall Drew Carry as well went there.
How DARE he criticize the USO?? He should be criticizing the celebs who refuse to make the trip! And I’m pretty darn sure other “famous” people have been to Afghanistan the past year.
O’Reilly’s really pissing me off.
There are others, as noted above.
the very best thing o’really has done lately is having michelle and laura do his teevee show while he’s away conjuring aggrandizement.
“Im pretty sure Gary Sinese has been over as well”
Gary Sinise is a great guy...had the chance to meet him. He’s a big supporter of the armed forces and therefore, sort of the antithesis of Hollywood. It’s amazing he can find work. ;)

Rush visited in 05. BOR’s quoted stated in the last year. In fairness to BOR, I havent heard much about celebs going to Afghanistan either.
I’ve seen Ingraham, its ‘okay’ but requires to much repeating of past O’Reilly segments for some odd reason.
Pretty sure Malkin has ended her relationship with Fox, at least ‘The Factor’ due to Geraldo’s insults, slurs, and general stupidity directed towards her on illegal immigration.
wikipedia, gary sinise
Since 2003, he has been involved with the Lt. Dan Band, performing for charities and non-profit organisations including the United Service Organizations and Operation Iraqi Children. The band is named for the character Sinise played in Forrest Gump; he plays bass for the band. He has been married to actress Moira Harris since 1981 and they have three children together: Sophia Ana (b. 1988), McCanna Anthony (b. 1990), and Ella Jane (b. 1992).
In 2003, Sinise was awarded an honorary doctorate in humane letters by Amherst College.
Sinise has been actively supporting United States troops and has plans of going to Iraq to show his appreciation. Most recently, he has donated $35,000 in support of a veterans hospital. [3]
‘In fairness to BOR, I havent heard much about celebs going to Afghanistan either.’
You haven’t because the MSM doesn’t like ‘postive stories’ from Afghanistan or Iraq, as we’ve seen for the past four to six years now.
As others have noted above, celebs are going, hell Paris Hilton tried it just three weeks ago, come to think of it.
O’Blowhard rides again. According to articles and pictures I have seen over the past year at the Defend America site, plenty of visitors sponsored by the USO have gone to the Gulf and Afghanistan. The last one I seem to recall was some scantily clad cheerleaders or dancers visiting Bagram AFB in Kabul.
minor point, those guys with rush are shooters, not troops
e.g., blackwater
