Border fence upsets environmentalists (THAT's A GOOD THING IN MY BOOK)
KVOA.com ^ | Ed Tribble

Posted on 11/19/2007 7:56:58 PM PST by SandRat

A group of people concerned for the environment toured the border near Sierra Vista to see the newly constructed border fence.

Among them was Congressman Raul Grijalva.

As they tour the border, one of their concerns is about wildlife which won't be able to get across the new fence.

"Anything larger than four inches wide will not be able to cross," says Matt Clark with Defenders of Wildlife.

Another concern is that illegal traffic will be forced into environmentally sensitive river beds.

"We're concerned about effects on hydrology. There's concern riverbeds may shift because of all these structures and increased sedimentation," Clark says.

"Right now we have a 'one fence fits all philosophy' coming from Washington DC. And unfortunately 'one fence fits all' doesn't fit in this terrain," Grijalva says.

Border Patrol says it has followed standard laws covering environmental assessments for all major projects like this one within the federal government.

"That environmental assessment found that there would be no significant environmental impact as a result of this construction project," says Border Patrol spokeswoman Dove Haber.

"In our attempts to make sure the watershed has the least impact possible, we've decided that we're going to work with different types of material," she says.

When it comes to national security and the environment it's all part of a balancing act.

"We've done as much as we can to try and deal with national security issues and mitigate any negative effects to the environment whenever possible," Haber says.

b.s.

if they were concerned about the environment,

then they’d been outraged by the trash left by

illegals crossing the desert.

""We're concerned about effects on hydrology. There's concern riverbeds may shift because of all these structures and increased sedimentation," Clark says."

Horseshit.

This guy Clark have any idea how much annual rainfall there is around that part of Arizona?
Annual rainfall for Sierra Vista isn't much over 12 inches - how is the "hydrology" of that going to be affected?

And what "river" is he thinking of that has any actual water in it?

you are correct Mr Opinion! The animals will adapt. These idiots think if bambi crosses for a two week vacation and on her return to Mexico the fence blocks her way that she will get upset! I suspect that the animals will stay here and continue to exist as before.

The nazi animal lovers just have a problem with the fence and the landscapers that will be forced to stay in Mexico.

Let em cry.
______

Congress gave Chertoff the power to waive environmental and other laws to build border barriers when it passed the REAL ID Act in 2005.

It’s all tied to the San Pedro River and you can bet the Center for BioDiversity is stirring the pot along with the Sierra Club.

Maybe they should impale all environmentalists on stakes and use them to line the southern borders.

It'll serve as a nice double duty of getting rid of those wackos who are screwing the country with their sci-fi environmental nonsense (frivolous lawsuits, laws and other rulings) while scaring off those illegals who want to cross into the USA.

Can't have that stuff getting into the soil or food chain. Really.

The left has Rudy Giuliani on their side. He’ll take care of their concerns with a virtual fence that’ll stop no one but virtual illegal aliens.
