Aloha Luv!
Found a little ditty while looking around for Bob Hope stuff. It's from
Chu Lai, south of where we were..... I was up in I corps, but gives a sense of the times, a view of life there.... and how much a visit from Bob Hope meant to all of us.

The kids’ new house is about a quarter mile from where they are renting now.

Dang just came on this evening. I did not sleep well last night, so after dinner I crashed, well, I awoke sneezing and it has not stopped. First cold I have had in a good while.
Oh well, everyone has something.

Lombard also had a rauchy, earthy sense of humor.
During the Thirties, she was doing a screwball comedy where she was dressed in the sheer pants that were the style at that point. The director looked at the setup of the shot and noticed something that was not quite right. He took Lombard aside and discreetly told her she needed to shave her pubic hair because the shadow of it was showing through the pants.
Lombard went back to her dressing room and returned with a straight razor, which she handed to the director. The director was flamboyantly gay, and he howled, turned and fled -- much to the delight of cast and crew.
