'Ralphies' gathering on Thanksgiving weekend
If you identify with Ralphie Parker, the 9-year-old Midwestern boy who longed for a BB gun, you may wish to spend Thanksgiving weekend in Cleveland with fans of the movie "A Christmas Story."
That's when your fellow "Ralphies" will meet actors who played in the 1983 cult classic, tour the restored Cleveland home used in the movie and enjoy a Christmas dinner, just like the Parker family, at the C & Y Chinese restaurant.

Now, I had heard that word at least ten times a day from my old man. He worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay. It was his true medium; a master.

Wow! We do the same...Mannheim and The Christmas Story! My kids love the movie because they say that my husband IS Ralphie’s father...
especially when he’s fixing the furnace!

He looked like a tick about to pop.

Thanks for the posting.
‘Christmas Story’ is American through and through.
I am sure its very existence offends quite a few of our newest immigrants which just adds to the enjoyment!

For a (thankfully) short time we had neighbors across the street we called "The Bumpuses." We lived in a very nice, quiet, comfortably middle class suburb and this "family" kept their black lab-mutt chained to the front porch. The kids would play on the roof when no adults were home and the father, who drove a Chevette without a muffler, would speed through the stop sign every morning.
There was much rejoicing when they couldn't afford the house payment and moved out.

I listened to Shep’s show every night that I could. I was in Maine but the signal came in ok if I wrapped the wire antenna of the Silvertone around my hand.

But the story was actually set in NW Indiana. To go to Cleveland, would be pretty lame.

The story was set in Hammond, formerly known as Homan, Indiana. It was filmed in Cleveland.
