Ron Paul is a Useful Man for Democrats

By Andrew Walden

The Ron Paul story never seems to end -- and yet never seems to quite make it into the mainstream media. That's because, in the political equivalent of a bank shot, Paul's fringe support helps bleach embarrassing stains from the Democrats.

First there is the revelation that Jim C Perry, the "Orthodox Jewish" head of "Jews for Paul" also calls himself a gay pagan Unitarian.

Now it turns out that Perry, Paul's point man in response to questions raised by the Jewish Telegraph Agency, is also accused of stealing money from the local New Hampshire branch of the Libertarian Party.  What a great guy!  It's only an accusation. And the "Libertarian" Perry was in 2006 running for New Hampshire Legislature as a Democrat

Oh yes:  Then the federal raids started

It turns out that some folks actually buy-in to Ron Paul's blither about US dollars being "phony money".  Here Paul is talking about "phony money" at a recent Ron Paul rally outside the Philadelphia Mint with a large crowd including -- surprise, surprise, -- some more white supremacists. (Who show they fully understand the New Orleans protocol.)

Some of Paul's gold bug supporters been trying to pass so-called "Liberty Dollars" off as real currency at stores nationwide.  Sleepy clerks have given them change in US currency for purchases.  Raids have been conducted in the last few days by the FBI and Secret Service at Liberty Dollar HQ in a strip mall office in Evansville, Indiana, (that's not where I would be keeping three pounds of gold, but I digress) as well as Asheville, NC (here the segregationist ‘Council of Conservative Citizens' is very concerned) and a private mint located in Coeur d'Alene, IdahoArrests were also made recently in Wisconsin (on their blogsite, these geniuses detail three places where the spent Liberty Dollars as if they were legal tender).   In 2006 two arrests had been made in Buffalo, NY.  The Evanston raid netted a huge load of "Ron Paul Dollars" apparently just delivered from Idaho and backed perhaps by the full faith and credit of...  Ron Paul?

Ron Paul's Evanston supporters went to Liberty Dollar HQ to protest with Ron Paul-for-president signs.  At the Evansville Ron Paul site one of their leaders explains the defense strategy:

"I sent an email to infowars.com, so with any luck we'll make it on prisonplanet.com and go viral. If nothing else should come of this, maybe the LD can get a case before the Supreme Court and settle once and for all and maybe Ron Paul's name will be on more people's minds and lips."

And, yes Ron Paul donor 9-11 "troother" Alex Jones did post it.  And it did go ‘viral'.  But no that doesn't mean the 9-11 "troothers" are integral to the Ron Paul campaign because ...uh...uh... (insert Paulite rationalization here).

Meanwhile over at Reason Magazine, they seem to have lost all of theirs.  Writes Jeff Taylor:

"As such, accounts of the (Evansville) raid focused on the Ron Paul angle seem off-base, at least given the available facts."

Sure, just close your eyes and it will all go away.  Let yourself get sucked down the toilet with the frauds, and scammers.  Reason wants us to believe that Ron Paul has absolutely nothing to do with Ron Paul dollars.  But Paul's "troother" supporters believe that George Bush and ‘the Jooos' personally crawled through the ductwork at the World Trade Center to wire the explosives for controlled detonation.

Apparently they didn't get the message at the Daily Paul.  Their response to the raid:

"This is pretty scary stuff and reminiscent of a time in Germany...I wonder if the motivation was our wonderful $4.3M day?"

The Street writes;

"...if the raid results in the conviction of anyone involved, it is possible that the Paul campaign may have to return a cash donation made by Liberty Dollar....So far, Liberty Dollar has donated $2,300 to the Paul campaign, a fact confirmed by both Paul's office and Bernard von NotHaus, who runs Liberty Dollar."

No connection there?

No tough questions for Paul, but plenty of fluff.   Rolling Stone writes: "Republican takes the lead against the war."  This comes after Bill Maher physically chased "troothers" from his studio audience October 19 shouting "out, out, out" and Bill Clinton stared down troother hecklers October 24 with: "An inside job?  How dare you?"

The Democrats and their media are using the Paul campaign to scrape six years of accumulated "toother" scum off the Democrat Party, deposit it into the Libertarian movement make a little mess for the GOP.  With Obama, Hillary and Edwards all refusing to promise to withdraw troops from Iraq by 2013 Democrats dream of losing the "surrender monkey" tag.

Here is a Chicago Tribune fluff piece with this gem of verbal judo:

"to a growing, Internet-based pool of supporters, the silver-haired obstetrician turned politician is the sanest man at the Republican debates and perhaps in all of Congress. Paul attracts an unusual political potpourri of people of all ages and viewpoints, including a sprinkling of conspiracy theorists and other extremists whose views Paul's campaign disavows."

No anti-Semites, KKKers, or FBI raids in sight anywhere -- just ‘conspiracy theorists'--but all neatly "disavowed."  Really?  Was that when Jesse Benton -- Ron Paul's national communications director -- said "I cannot say that we will be rejecting Mr. Black's (Stormfront) contribution?"

Well actually Ron Paul appears to be disavowing some contributions: those given by bankers and Wall Streeters.  Corporate money is too dirty for Ron Paul to accept but KKK money is not?

The Chicago Tribune also offers this nugget:

"Paul appears financially comfortable but not exceedingly wealthy, according to filings with the Federal Election Commission. Most of his holdings are in about two dozen gold and silver firms, many valued at less than $15,000 and none valued at more than $250,000."

Do those firms benefit from the sale of Ron Paul Dollars?  Of course they do; someone has to bring in the wrong way crowd to buy gold and silver at the top of the commodities cycle.

Meanwhile the mainstream media is mostly ignoring the cesspool of neo-Nazis, Klanners, Holocaust deniers, and gold-bugs-with-the-FBI-pounding-on-their-door, surrounding Paul.  Why?  The Democrats can unload some of their whack-job fringe to the GOP via Ron Paul and in their dreams, hang these nut jobs around the GOP's neck like a dead albatross.  At the same time they assist Hillary or Obama in trying to move to the center for the general election.

Timing is everything.  Paul has staked $1.1 million on the NH primary.  His big fundraising push November 5 and now December 16 come conveniently before the Jan 1 reporting deadline.  That deadline is too close to the Iowa and NH votes for evidence about Paul's supporters to make a difference.

The hard work is done.  The information about Paul is on line neatly organized for even the laziest reporter in America to confirm, write up and look like a genius.

Writes WaPo:

"As if Ron Paul's supporters needed any more motivation to storm the battlements and wreak havoc on the Republican presidential primary, now comes this: the feds are trying to take away their money."

Antonio Gramsci would be very proud.

The “American Stinker” is an unabashedly pro-zionist rant machine. Naturally, when it comes to Dr. Paul and his America first positions, they go ballistic. The shriller their voice, the more it seems that Dr. Paul’s popularity increases.

Didn't know that, they must really suck. Just a bunch of neocons.

Have you thought that Ron Paul currently benefits Hillary Clinton insofar as he appeals to leftist Democrats who dislike her as a corporate apologist and for her refusal to commit to an immediate withdrawal from Iraq? If he were not around, many Paul supporters might vote for one of her opponents in the Democratic primaries. One of Obama's demographic strengths is supposedly his ability to draw younger, anti-establishment voters. Paul may well be taking traction away from Obama. OTOH, Paul's effect on the general election if he chooses to run as an independent is hard to assess. If someone other than Giuliani or McCain wins the GOP nomination, the conservative constituencies will rally to the party. Paul may draw votes from the same leftists who might otherwise hold their noses and vote for Hillary.

I heard Andrew Sullivan on Bill Bennett's talk show this morning. He said that it is best to treat Paul as a part of the overall "big tent" strategy and encourage his participation in the process. Sullivan's comments were sensible. Paul has yet to show any ability to get out of the single digits in any scientific poll, despite his undisputed ability to raise money. Having lots of money does not always correlate to votes, as Steve Forbes will attest. If Paul does not do well in the early primaries, he will fade away quickly.

Can you imagine those poor Democrats. They have a choice between thunder thighs, $2,000 haircut man, and Osama Obama.

General election 2008:

Cross Dresser (R)
Thunder Thighs (D)
John Doe (I)

Apparently, this is the most prominent of Paul’s backers. That’s all I was reporting.

My Opinion, Ron Paul is so full of himself...that he will use all the money and support from dims...to form an independent candidacy that will take more votes from the dims...

Actually you give Paul more credit than he is due - Everyone with a leg in the real world knows he is a nut. The Dems have to be laughing histerically that we have to give that kook space on the stage when we have debates. Paul pulls down the stature of our candidates by being included with them. He is an embarrassment and needs to go bye bye with the nice men in their clean white coats.

Whenever I remember I spent four years in the John Birch Society I feel dirty.

All that "international bankers/conspiracy/funny money" stuff is outright Nazism--not to mention the fact that we had a "central bank" under the Articles of Confederation and another created by Hamilton and Washington (who certainly knew what was "constitutional" and what wasn't).

At least bank notes are (theoretically at least) backed by actual cash on deposit. These Birchites insist that all evils would cease if "the government" merely printed its own money, backed by absolutely nothing, because then we wouldn't be paying interest to "international bankers!"

And btw, unlike Mr. Hamilton's bank, the Federal Reserve is part of the US government (contrary to Birch/Nazi doctrine).

Ron Paul bashing may be emotionally satisfying, but it’s not going to help the GOP win the Presidential election in 2008. And it is very important that we win.

Perhaps, but how can we win if guys like Ron Paul keep reminding the voters that the GOP of late squanders tax money at a rate at which the Clinton's have only dreamed?

“the Federal Reserve is part of the US government”

Actually, the federal reserve banks are semi-private corporations with stock that pays dividends. The government exercises a lot of control over them, but legally they are not part of the government.

Yelling "kook" has not worked and will only serve to stimulate his supporters to more grass roots actions. Paul has more volunteers than the top tier candidates combined. The day after the Feds raided NorFed, a company selling gold and silver tokens and a "gold bug" company aligned with Paul, the candidate received over $200K in contributions. Besides, the Republican Party needs to be as transparent as possible in its nominating process to deflect the allegation that it is rigged to favor two or three preferred candidates. As for the Democrats, they have their own fringe candidates: Kucinich and Gravel.

I don't really think that Ron Paul will have any real traction, even in New Hampshire or the Rocky Mountain states, places with sizable libertarian sentiments. Let the "free market", which Paul's supporters hold in such high esteem, decide whether he is politically viable. I could be wrong, but I don't see anything coming from his campaign. Overkill in the forms of slanders and exaggeration will not work and will only serve to stimulate the Paul supporters.

The Fed Chairman is nominated by the President, confirmed by Congress, and reports to them periodially. Plus their prophet is turned over to the US Treasury.

Compare that with Mr. Hamilton's bank. Now that was a real "private bank!"

In Louisiana in August Paul was the only candidate anywhere with signs. And they were mostly in rural areas. He has struck a chord with some rural people.

I don’t think Dr. Paul is at all arrogant. I think that he believes he is tapping into popular opinion long ignored by the establishment of both parties. The best he can do is 10 percent.

Thanks for the post, SJackson. You know what they say about that thing about Pavlov's dog...

Perry was never Paul's "point man." He was someone, an individual, doing his own thing and decided to be a crook. More guilt-by-association BS that has no bearing on Paul's campaign.

So the author chooses to casually dismiss Paul's solid argument on why the dollar's in a tailspin (OPEC has announced to dump the dollar, BTW) and simultaneously scour a crowd of 5,000 to find a few white supremacists. Did the author find the veterans in attendance and the black woman dressed up as the Statue of Liberty? Of course not, it would have defeated the purpose of writing the article to begin with. The author's journalistic skills are on par with Helen Thomas.

No evidence of this whatsoever (of people using the Liberty Dollars as currency), just another hyperbolic accusation mashed in among an article full of hyperbolic accusations. Phase 3 of the Ghandi rule has begun...

Uh chump, that's because he didn't.

Ridiculous non-sequitur. Anyway, Paul doesn't endorse the Truthers or believe that 9/11 was an inside job. But I know the author had a deadline to meet his skater buddies at Taco Bell for lunch and had to throw in the obligatory Jones reference to make his article more appealing.

More hyperbolic rhetoric. First of all, there is no "libertarian" movement, it is a movement of freedom and liberty that everyone from all backgrounds and political stripes are embracing. Second of all, leftists have no incentive to support Paul, especially finding out the hard way that he doesn't support socialism, envirowackoism, & military intervention in pet liberal causes around the globe. Finally, the notion that the Dems and media would waste their time on Paul is laughable. Someone explain to me: Why would leftists support Paul when he is the polar opposite of their beliefs, including the war and foreign policy?

Apparently, the author didn't get the memo. Jesse Benton has already stated that white supremacists were wasting their money on Dr. Paul. Paul is up to 100,000 donors now, what is he going to do? Purge through them all for those with racist views for the benefit of those who'll still loathe him anyway? Perhaps the author & FReeper SJackson (that's YOU) should ask why Haley Barbour sat with the Council of Conservative Citizens or why John Ashcroft spoke with the white supremacist magazine Southern Partisan. Both served in some capacity of the GOP/Bush administration. (Cue sounds of crickets chirping & Disney cartoon animals laughing in background)

Uh, buddy...that's because they don't represent Paul's support as a whole. Maybe the author should go to one of Paul's rallies and see how many nutjobs are in the audience. I guess that ordinary families and people are all kooks & Code Pinkers just because they're not supporting the candidate of the establishment's choice. Nice. The only people who are making a big stink out of this is you guys who want to trash Dr. Paul's good name and smear him as a racist because you can't refute his record, his integrity, and his reputation.

I'd never thought I'd see the day when "conservatives" resort to the same totalitarian tactics that the Left has used for years.

Real Americans don’t support politicians who are willing to be apologist for America’s enemies, who are willing to play footsie with anti-semites, or who indifferent to terrorists and their agenda. Ron Paul is a disgrace.

So I guess Britian and Poland are cut and runners too, since British troops are leaving next month from Iraq and Poland is leaving too. (After British troops left Basra, violence is down 90%)

Have it ever occurred to you that Paul is bringing in new and young voters in the GOP, as well as reuniting the libertarians and independents together? Where are these voters going to go if Paul continues to get crapped on by the establishment and media elites?

You think they're going to cheerfully support someone like Rudy?

Perhaps the author & FReeper SJackson (that's YOU) should ask why Haley Barbour sat with the Council of Conservative Citizens or why John Ashcroft spoke with the white supremacist magazine Southern Partisan.

You might recall that Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council was managing a Republican campaign for U.S. Senate back in 1996 and paid David Duke $82,500 for his mailing list. Perkins was then fined $3000 for trying to conceal the payment. FRC denies they knew they were buying the list from Duke but refuse to address the candidate's appearance before the CCC. Perkin's own later run for the Senate only brought in 10% of the vote and analysts write that they thing the earlier Duke/CCC connection ruined his prospects for national office. He then became president of FRC.

Maybe FRC is another bunch of Nazi racists too.
