PHILADELPHIA -- This may be the last free Thanksgiving dinner for the Boy Scouts of Philadelphia.
Citing a local 1982 "fair practices" law, the city solicitor has given the Scouts until Dec. 3 to renounce its policy of excluding homosexuals or forfeit the grand, Beaux-Arts building it has rented from the city for $1 a year since 1928.
"While we respect the right of the Boy Scouts to prohibit participation in its activities by homosexuals," the solicitor, Romulo Diaz, said last week in an interview, "we will not subsidize that discrimination by passing on the costs to the people of Philadelphia."

Is that a picture of the Liberty Bell at it’s new location? I hated that old Pavillion.
Funny how you carefully avoided my MULTIPLE assertions that the Scouts had every right to do as they wish. Either you can't read or you're being intentionally deceptive, because you know that shows you're a liar.
You werent questioning, you were criticizing.
My very first words on this thread--
"Is there a source to show the rate of gay scout leaders, before the ban, who abused kids compared to that of priests?"
The rest is the standard whining from those who can't stand the idea that someone wants FACTS and not just bitter emotion when dealing with reality.
If YOU were going to bring them up, I guess they're YOUR apples or oranges.
Of course there is a perfectly legitimate comparison between priests--single males, many of them homosexual--being allowed to teach children, and scout leaders. You might not WANT there to be a comparison, but there is.
No, but to include gay scout leaders is to say you approve. It sends a mixed message. Not one that needs to be sent to young, impressionable young boys.
No money for the Boy Scouts, but plenty of money for this:

I don't get these weak, phony arguments. Check up the thread where another poster has posted a list of FACTS as long as your arm that completely supports the Scouts' position.
Their mistake is that they don't just aim this as a legal issue--the John Edwardses of the world would understand them saying "We've had too many molestation cases, we're trying not to get sued!"
Oh, but it is all about discrimination. Isn’t it? SARCOFF.
“Funny how you carefully avoided my MULTIPLE assertions that the Scouts had every right to do as they wish. Either you can’t read or you’re being intentionally deceptive, because you know that shows you’re a liar.”
You say they have every right and then you criticize.
“The rest is the standard whining from those who can’t stand the idea that someone wants FACTS and not just bitter emotion when dealing with reality.”
Fact, scouts have rights too.
There's something you should know. We don't live in a democracy. Our form of government is a republic (you know like in The pledge of Allegiance, "and for the Republic, for which it stands,") Democracy is evil and to quote someone, who I don't know, "Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding on what they're going to eat for dinner."
What do you call it, when a city decides that the addition of 198,00 dollars will allow an organization to continue an activity deemed illegal by said city?
Side note, I wonder how many pro bono activities benefiting the city of filthydelphia the scouts are involved in and how high the price should be to the city, for the scouts to continue THOSE activities.
Doesn’t being a PC a$$hole generate a bucket of worms, or open Pandora’s box? Rhetorical question of course.
Democracy is evil? I guess for the 50 percent who does not get their way it is. Actually I never heard anyone say that Democracy is evil. Isn’t that what we are over in Iraq for. All I hear is building a democracy for Iraq.
On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.
Have the property appraised, sell it to the Boy Scouts, and then case is closed. The city can go bother someone else.

Where did I criticize the Scouts? I didn't--I asked for the BACKGROUND DATA. That is not criticism--that's asking for the ammo with which to bash those who are trying to stifle their freedom.
Also, there's absolutely nothing wrong with criticizing someone with whom you agree at core--do you just blindly follow the president, congress, etc., or are you somehow a liberal if you criticize them?
If you need to blindly follow, I pity you. But I don't think you believe that, so why is it so hard to grasp that someone isn't criticizing by asking for the facts?
Fact, scouts have rights too.
Something I never disputed, something I repeatedly asserted on this thread. Please don't lie about me just because you are in a snit.
Years ago I switched my United Way contribution to Boy Scouts of America.
Clarification: I no longer contribute to the United Way. I take that money and contribute directly to the BSA.
This very same thing happened to the Boy Scouts in San Diego, California. The Scouts had a long standing similar rental agreement with the City of San Diego to maintain the Boy Scout headquarters in a part of town known as Balboa Park. The Scouts were finally kicked out and asked to leave because they would not let the homosexuals in.
