If a signed parent/student privacy release form regarding a specific incident is tendered, the school should not be allowed to hide their official (and often insane) records of actions taken, by claiming mandatory nondisclosure due to “privacy rights”.
The NEA does not have the same power to “classify as national secrets” certain information as does the DOD/CIA/NSA etc.
I shouldn’t have to file formal legal action to gather detailed information regarding any and all actions of all the unelected, unionized bureaucrats of a school system, regarding anything affecting my child.
And if I decide to make that information widely available, guess what?
That is my right of decision, not the public school systems.
Time to shine a spotlight, and watch what scatters.
A bangstick...
Welllll...doesn’t sound like anyone was in any kind of danger. Shells without a gun aren’t much good on their own. When I was in HS, guys would come in during deer season with their guns racked up in the pickup and no one thought anything about it. And undoubtedly, she knows more than most about gun safety.
That being said, ‘rules is rules’. Too many parents don’t back up the school system when little Johnny or Janey get in trouble. My son took his cell phone to school and used it in the bathroom (to call me to remind me to pick him up as he had to use the library). He got caught using it - confiscation of cell phone and in-school suspension. Too bad, you knew the rules kid. We all have to abide by rules in this life.
” Her family is fighting the Dysart Unified School District to get the offense, possession of a “dangerous instrument,” expunged. Administrators stand by their decision and rejected the family’s first appeal. “We can never comment on a specific situation with a student (due to privacy laws), but what I can say is that whenever we are dealing with any infraction . . . our duties involve keeping students in a safe and secure environment,” Dysart Superintendent Gail Pletnick said.”
The girl is a champion skeet shooter, for Lord sakes!!
Here in the Dakotas we just leave them rolling around the floor of the pickup. The spent ones are in the truck box.
I agree. I am at a loss for words beyond this.
Other than STUPID.
Same here.
Thanks. Well said.

“Too many parents dont back up the school system when little Johnny or Janey get in trouble. “
Uh, maybe so. But a box of shells with no gun is not a danger to anyone. Common sense should lead these school officials that this was a complete accident, and should NOT go on the girl’s permanent record. Also, she is a champion skeet shooter, and this should have entered into a common sense approach to this. These officials are just plain nuts!!
Forward together.
Is the School Superintendent breaking the law by permitting Illegal Aliens to attend ?
1968
It happens. I worked in uniform in NY State prisons for many years. They would regularly send out Lieutenants or above to check employee's cars to see if they were locked and what was in them. On several occasions, officers were busted for having shotgun ammo in their cars. One poor guy (many were hunters), had come in on his day off to pick up his paycheck and made the mistake of having his shotgun in the rack in his truck cab. He was brought up on charges and fined heavily. Being state property, there were laws that governed bringing any item on the grounds that could be considered contraband. And, you were required to lock your vehicle at all times.
Or an illegal alien. They would have given her a driver's license.
Well put.
I wonder what they would do to my dad, who used to unload his gun and leave it leaning on the school house wall, before going in the door each morning.
