The Nov. 11-14 Gallup Poll finds 28% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents nationwide naming Giuliani as their first choice for the partys 2008 presidential nomination. Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson is second, at 19%. Thompson appears, for the moment, to have halted some negative momentum, as his numbers had fallen slightly in each of the three prior polls. Thompson received a key endorsement from the National Right to Life Committee this week, although it is unclear whether that would have boosted his support.
Arizona Sen. John McCain (13%), former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (12%), and Huckabee (10%) are closely matched for third place. Texas Rep. Ron Paul places sixth with 5% support. [Snip] Among the roughly 6 in 10 Republicans in the current poll who say they are extremely likely to vote in their states 2008 presidential primary or caucus, Giuliani (25%) and Thompson (21%) are essentially tied. McCain (13%), Romney (12%), and Huckabee (12%) tie for third among this group.

Fred momentum ping!
As candidates drop out, the numbers of all will improve; except for Giuliani. Can’t see him being the second, or even the third choice of any of the other canddates’ supporters.
Correction to post 1: Among those extremely likely to vote, Fred is statistically tied with Giuliani For FIRST place, not second. Sorry for the mistake.
So Fred and Rudy are tied within the margin of error? SWEET! I had a feeling the National Right To Life endorsement was going to be a turning point!! Wait until the NRA endorses him! Hahahahaha! Bye, bye Rudy McRombee!
While I do like polls that validate what I want to see, Ras is the one that I trust and I haven’t seen much movement there.
Let’s not open the champagne bottles just yet. :)
I’ll take my chances wuth Fred’s bloomers rather than hilary’s.
Yea. A lot of pundits will be feasting on crow. I saw part of Fred on This Week. He just keeps getting better and better. He really handled Stephanopoulos well. Preview of what he is going to do to Hillary. Can’t wait.
The problem with daily tracking polls is they tend to be more volatile. No poll is 100% reliable this far out. The Ras numbers will not begin to harden until much closer to the voting. Nonetheless, I am pleased by the Gallup internals.
It’s just that everyone in the drive-by media has been posting Fred’s obituary and dancing on his imagined political grave for weeks now, when they haven’t been ignoring or slighting him in some way. I don’t have any champagne bottles cracked open, but I will do a little jig (at 375lbs, it’s something to see).
yeah, go Fred, go!
Does anyone know why (really not cynically) Robertson endorsed Giuliani?
“Lets not open the champagne bottles just yet. :)”
Agreed. But you don’t mind if I put my bottle on ice, do you?:)
This is good news about FDT. I wish I’d seen him this morning!
I like to look at the internals of the polls. Sometimes you find the real story, which is not necessarily what the MSM is spoonfeeding the voters. Fred was absolutely great on This Week, even better than Russert.
“Its just that everyone in the drive-by media has been posting Freds obituary and dancing on his imagined political grave for weeks now”
Yep, we have to battle their Rudy fixation !
And why should I care what only 398 people might think?
Vote for your favorite candidate and don't let these pollsters make the choice for all Americans.
That’s where mine is. :)
No one asked you to care. So why are you here if you don’t care?
