LOL, so you don't care about Constitutional limitations on the Executive Branch either I see. The comment section where this was originally posted rips this 'opinion' piece apart

Ron Paul may be a loose cannon but the rest of the field both republican and democrat are a bunch of what I like to call good strong half wits and will send a marine to take a bullet in a heart beat.

How did this "kook" manage to raise over $8.5 million so far for the 4Q?

How many enthusiastic supporters show up for the other GOP candidates' rallies? Where are their "money bombs" at?

How many straw polls Dr. Paul has won? Post-debate polls? Meet-up groups and grassroots support? YouTube clips?

Paul is running rings around the other candidates, and you guys here just can't comprehend it.

I will address a few of these...

1. Ron Paul is inconsistent... when he was asked ... whether Scooter Libby deserved a pardon, he said no. "He doesn't deserve one because he was instrumental in leading the Congress and the people to support a war that we didn't need to be in." ... because Libby argued for a policy with which Paul disagreed, he deserved to serve time in prison.

So long as you are not convicted (or plead guilty) you are presumed innocent. Once convicted, that presumption is reversed. Of course, you can appeal, or ask for a pardon, or both.

But nobody is owed a pardon. A pardon is a privilege, not a right. In evaluating a pardon, governors and presidents take into account facts that would not be admissible at trial. For example, your previous misconduct generally is inadmissible to find you guilty. But it is admissible to show you are not eligible for pardon.

2. Ron Paul is historically challenged. He argues that by embracing isolationism, he fits within a Republican tradition stretching back to Eisenhower "who stopped the Korean War" and including Nixon "who stopped the war in Vietnam." ... It was the Eisenhower administration that had a hand in toppling Iran's Mohammad Mossedegh ... Eisenhower also intervened in Guatemala, Cuba...and Lebanon.

Nixon... intervened in many countries including Chili, Peru and Cambodia. And he saved Israel by resupplying her during the Yom Kippur war.

In each instance, the most pressing foreign policy issue these presidents faced was an unpopular war. In each instance, they ended that war.

By analogy, the most pressing foreign policy issue the next POTUS will face is the Iraq war. Ron Paul wants to address that issue as did Nixon and Ike.

3. Ron Paul is unserious. Suggesting that you will eliminate the IRS, the CIA, the FBI and other government agencies within weeks of taking office is ridiculous. These are bumper stickers, not serious reform proposals.

As to FBI and CIA, I think they serve important functions in the WOT. So I disagree with RP, and agree with the author.

As to the IRS, I agree with RP's vision. But, legally and practically, I don't think he can accomplish this "within weeks" of getting into the White House.

My question for you is: How often did you doubt that a candidate can deliver a particular promise, but still voted for him because you liked the vision? ...

More later ...
