Mitt Romney called attempts to undermine him by questioning his Mormon faith "un-American" as he spoke to reporters in Nevada yesterday. Romney was specifically responding to reported "push-poll" phone calls being made in Iowa and New Hampshire, in which the calls reportedly begin as opinion polls but turn into statements and questions designed to highlight and cast doubt on Romney's Mormon faith. Here is what Romney had to say.....(Video)

It’s “not nice,” I’ll grant you that. But, that’s a far cry from “unAmerican.” Mitt Romney’s own church describes the Roman Catholic Church as “the Whore of Babylon.” Does Mitt Romney believe this, or is he an “American,” by his own self-serving definition?

The Constitution expressly does not allow for a “religious test” to hold office. The “no religious test” clause of the United States Constitution is found in Article VI, section 3, and states that: “ ...no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.

"I'm a Mormon, and my faith is none of your business."

"I'm a Mormon, which is a type of Christianity, and my faith is none of your business."

I see no difference between those two sentences at all.

“That freedom includes the right to denounce another belief system, last I checked.”

You are absolutely right. It’s the government that is prohibited from regulating religion. The individual has the right to accept or reject any religion.

I have no problem with Romney’s faith. At least he has a belief system based on morality. I have enough other problems with Romney without that one.

I don't personally accept the faith to which Mitt Romney belongs, myself. I find it rather amusing, that he's playing victim here, when nearly all his political travails stem from not following the precepts of his faith in the political realm. Whoever the political consultant is, that came up with this whole "Romney is right" thing, doesn't have a clue about the foundations of religious freedom in this country, and neither does Mitt Romney. That, combined with vacillating positions on core principles, leads me to believe that the only core principle Mitt Romney has is self-advancement.

I could care less about about his religion right now.

I care more about his being a flip flopping mass politician trying to sell conservatives he’s the progeny of Ronald Reagan, Goldwater and Limbaugh.

I know I’m supposed to denounce people making statements about his religion, but honestly, that’s been done. he and his syncophants have been talking about it forever. Some with cause, some not. Infact the first memory I have of his religion was hugh Hewit launching a pre-emptive attack before anything had ever really been said of it.

the appropriate denouncements have been made more then once by conservatives from coast to coast. I’m not being baited into doing it again playing on political territory he feels at home on. I’d rather hear more about this socialist healthcare plan he has that makes abortions affordable or the fact he took the same damn position on the Human life amendment as thompson...for which he and his buddies denounced Thompson.

I’d rather hear why he’s been running for this position for a couple of years and has failed to put out any real lan on illeal immigration or entitlements.

Those push-polls are a lethal, poisonous tactic.

Religious bigotry is what has destroyed Iraq, what has caused problems in Northern Ireland. That’s what makes America great — freedom of religion.

That’s just it. The nuance is subtle, and Romney is beating it like it is a dead horse.

For some reason, Romney thinks he must say that he is a Christian. Why, I do not understand.

I mean, we know Joe Lieberman is Jewish. Does he run around saying, “Hi, I’m Joe, and by the way, I’m a Jew.”?

NO! It is a ridiculous statement for him to make.

So, when Romney keeps throwing the Christian phrase behind him saying he is Mormon, he is virtually ASKING for comparison.

Just who are you to decide who is or isn’t a Christian are you God?

You all insist on calling us Mormons after a Book but I am really LDS the restored Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

2 Ne. 25:
26 And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.

Yes, indeed, folks, Mormons are Christians — period. This from a Catholic who lives in the township next to Kirtland, Ohio. This is why Mr. Romney keeps saying, “Christian.” Nothing more to it than that.

"...questions designed to highlight and cast doubt on Romney's Mormon faith."

If the questions a put this way, he (M.R.) is right.  Otherwise, I am free to have my doubts about any religion, included mine.

I don’t accept his faith either. In fact, pastors at my church have called it a cult. I don’t know enough about to make that judgement but I do know a number of Mormans and they are good, decent people. My concern with Romney is the same as all the rest of the leading ladies. They are not conservatives, no matter how anyone slices it.

Given the number of years mitt has chase after the all mighty dollar, which golden idol does his religion use?

He can pray to a green Brazilian frog for all I care. Still not going to vote for him.

mitts ideal of stirring this up is that you are a bigot if you don’t vote for him. LOL

What is the Catholic position on the Mormons?
