"Woman Shares Story Of Sneaking Across U.S., Mexico Border"
WKRN Nashville ^ | November 16, 2007 | Staff writer

Posted on 11/17/2007 12:51:44 AM PST by Tennessee Nana

The Tennessee Minutemen volunteer to patrol the border. Border Patrol agents are paid to do it.

Roger Maier is a border patrolman.

He said, “Anti-terror is the primary mission, but the inspection process does turn up violations, drugs, illegal immigration, fugitives.”

Customs agents enforce immigration law at the ports of entry.

Everyday about 100,000 people cross from Mexico to El Paso, Texas by car or foot.

Every week immigration officials catch about 100 people that try to deceive them and cross illegally.

To catch those people, officers use drug sniffing dogs.

...Border Patrol and Minutemen search vehicles.

Maier said, “We had an officer hear screaming in the area. Basically this woman was being roasted alive because she was so close to the engine compartment and was being burned while the car was moving.”

Why do illegal immigrants risk death to cross the border?

“Poor, I believe they are poor here. There’s a lot of poverty. There are no jobs.”

A woman named Maria crossed into the U.S. illegally. She spoke with News 2 and shared her side of the story.

She said, “We are illegals to them, that we’re coming intothis country illegally. We tried to pass through a canal. I don’t know where because I don’t know the area.”

Just across the border you can see the living conditions.

Studies show one of the biggest reasons for illegal immigration is money.

Maria, like so many others, risked her life and snuck into the United States with little more than hope.

She said, “We want to work, achieve goals, take our children out and help other people. I think we’re doing something right.”

The international border is located in the middle of the Rio Grande River.

Partsof the river are completely dried up. There are footprints in the sand where people cross from Mexico into the U.S.

Maria told News 2 how she came to the United States.

She said, “It was something so incredible. Because they told me there were cameras. I didn’t see it. I was just following. In that moment it was walk. We passed very quickly. I think it was a matter of 15 minutes, something short, but with adrenaline that they not see us. We arrived and we’re already on the other side.”

Maria lives in an unmarked and inconspicuous building.

It’sa shelter for migrants and refugees. Many hear about it through word of mouth, and they can get shelter and food.

They stay a few weeks before moving to other parts of the country.

Maria said, “We suffer so much, when we finally manage to get here, it was worth it.”

Shelter worker Simon Chandler said, “No human being is illegal. If someone comes to the door, is hungry and needs a place to stay, our first reaction is to take them in. Not to check papers, and that’s not our responsibility. That’s the responsibility of the border patrol.”

Maria fought to get into the U.S.in hopes of a brighter future for her family.

She said, “I think that if we truly want something, we have to fight for what we want and I want to get ahead.”

Bob Brown fights to keep people like her out of the U.S. in hopes of a brighter future for his.

He said, “It’s something I have to do for my family, grandchildren, and their children.”

Illegal immigration is a complex issue.

The Border Patrol, Minutemen, shelter, and customs agents said they’re doing the best they can with the resources they have.

Studies show one of the biggest reasons for illegal immigration is money.

That's the biggest reason most people become criminals.

This woman along with the other illegals need to develop a backbone and do something in their own country.

I’m so mad about what these people get away with. I know someone from South Africa that is trying to do things the legal way and she keeps getting shafted over and over again. She’s about to give up and head back to South Africa. Our country is full of frickin’ morons. I’m so disgusted with it all.

There’s only 5 BILLION more “victim” in the world that desire to steal their way into this country. The do-gooders want to let them in and thus turn this country into another 3rd world failure. That is the goal!

If they are willing to risk their lives for hope, and I’ll take that at face value, imagine if they took that risk in their own country to fix their own government? And if they are not willing to do that, perhaps we should under the doctrine of forward defense.

The problem will be solved by military action amd annexation of territiry.

Removal of the corrupt government and ruling class is the only solution and war is the only way to remove it

I can understand this woman wanting a better life and I have seen the poverty on the other side. Mexicans have walked across the border for so many decades now without opposition that they feel it is their right to do so. The men used to come and work, leaving their families in Mexico and sending them money. I don’t know when it changed but the women started coming and now they all want to stay.

My husband found a woman who had just given birth on the ground in his south Texas hunting pasture about 10 miles inside our border. He called the Border Patrol and by the time they got there she had fled into the brush carrying the baby. Tough people, tough situation.

Simon Chandler needs to be arrested and put away for about twenty years.

How could she be here if she was doing things legally, you get your papers and then you come here.

This illegal i mmigration thing, is a win, win for Mexico, lose lose for the US. They turn our nation into a huge drainer and suck our life from us.

And, our elected officials have destroyed this country.

You’re exactly right—the big picture reveals that there are billions more that want this status, which is a status even we , who have been here, mostly from Europe, for generations, do not even yet have. (We certainly don’t have the status of being taken more seriously that those hordes who want to dictate US policy towards themselves-—in that area we become the easily manipulable “minority”)
THe whole point is, unless “somebody” stops this it does indeed threaten to put the entire nation into an unmanageable position in every way, and it does lead directly into third-worldism, and THAT unfortunately is a condition even George W. Bush, who needs to out-do the Libs on this one, had been leading the charge on.And worse of all, in addition to ruining us, it will help turn Mexico into a richer country, once it’s gotten rid of its
“unemployment problem” into something resembling Saudi Arabia. Remember, they already have a head start—the world’s richest man comes from Mexico, and he ain’t even connected directly to Mexican oil.

The problem with that is they would probably demand communism.

Well, bert, what you said in #11 pretty much falls in line with what LaRaza and all other loosely affiliated groups think about the USA.EWxcept they’re doing is through the quiet terrorism of illegal invasion, backed up by “good cop” talking heads and willing politicians here who see yet another political hot button issue they can play with for immediate political advantage.

“No human being is illegal.

I am so fed up with hearing this phrase!

Maria fought to get into the U.S.in hopes of a brighter future for her family.

What "family" is she referring to? Did she leave her family behind and is that children or parents and siblings?

She said, “I think that if we truly want something, we have to fight for what we want and I want to get ahead.”

They want to come here for more money, a better life, to get ahead, etc....but turn it into a 3rd world country they left behind.
