LOS ANGELES - Marie Osmond said her 16-year-old son has entered a rehabilitation facility, but she didn't disclose the nature of his problem.
"My son, Michael, is an amazing young man, shown through his courage in facing his issues. As his mother I couldn't be more proud of him," the 48-year-old singer said in a statement issued Wednesday through her publicist, Marleah Leslie.
"The press and public have always been kind and gracious in the past and I know they will continue to respect our privacy during this time," Osmond said.
The statement was first reported by TV show "Entertainment Tonight."
Osmond has eight children. She announced earlier this year that she and her second husband, Brian Blosil, are divorcing.
She has been appearing on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars." She missed last week's show after her father, George Osmond, patriarch to her and her singing brothers, died at his home in Provo, Utah. He was 90.
She had survived the cut this week and remains a contestant on the dance competition.
Osmond fainted on stage following a samba during a live broadcast of the show last month. She quickly recovered and was well enough to continue.
"Once in a while that happens to me when I get winded," she has explained.
Osmond gained fame at 13 with the hit song "Paper Roses." She starred with her brother Donny on television's "Donny and Marie Show" during the 1970s.
Her brothers Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay made their TV debut in 1962. Over the years, the Osmond Brothers singing group has also included her brothers Donny and Jimmy.
She may have; but I think depression was involved. I think her first husband was seeing other women; but I could be wrong.
Prayers to her and her son.
Now that's a sad thought.
Where did the article say he was on crack? Please share this info with us.
Wow! If we all can only go through life without anyone around us having substance problems. I just got in touch with my best friend from high school. He’s finally at a point in his life that he is having great success doing what he loves and is clean. He will lecture me about not doing drugs (which I don’t). But, he says things are as they should be. I’m proud of him now and I would have been proud of him if I had been with him when he started to turn his life around. It’s taking the courage to pull oneself out of the deep, dark hole that is to be commended.
The Enquirer reports: "In an effort to drop 30 pounds, the 48-year-old entertainer has been on a near-starvation diet. And she's been downing bottle after bottle of energy drinks to cope with the rigorous dance rehearsals for the show," says sources.
"Marie has been eating practically nothing for weeks now," said a family insider. "What's more, she downs energy drinks. During a medical checkup her doctor told Marie that her potassium level was dangerously low and that she had to eat more. "But Marie paid no attention. She can't cope with negative comments about her weight. She decided she was going to lose weight as quickly as possible."
Like I did, she probably slowed her metabolism way down by not eating. I have to force myself to eat, it is the only way I can lose weight.
I hope not...but she does seem remarkably wrinkle-free for being close to 50.
Hell, I wish I had that problem.
She looks better at a higher weight. Looks too gaunt when she’s thin...I think because of the way she gets thin...starvation dieting, WAY TOO MANY energy drinks, etc...
Unlike us little people, the celebs will have their dirty laundry aired no matter what they do. I think the press conferences are just a way to get their side of the story out.
Sometimes it's better for the family to get it out to the public rather than it be announced on the front page of the National Enquirer.
“Why you clicked onto the link to begin with, doubtless.”
LOL
There are some who manage to stay out of the limelight and not feel the need to make public announcements and talk show tours at every line written about them.
Post-partum depression after the birth of her last child I believe.

There are several situations one is a faith spouse can enter the Celestial kingdom even if the other spouse comes up short.
Wishing best for Marie. IMO, she is one of the most likable celebrities. Unlike Paris H. and Britney S., she is able to carry on an intelligent conversation.
What if she ends up with three husbands? It would seem logical that she would marry again. IIRC Mormon men are allowed to have more than one wife in Heaven but I wasn’t sure about women.
The latest news is you have to eat to lose weight meaning don’t skip meals especially breakefast it confuses the metabolism.
I saw a clip from Larry King (?) where he appears to blindside her asking about her son in rehab.
She actually says, “how did you know about that?” and he replied “someone told me”. I thought that was incredibly heartless of him.
To her credit, though she was obviously caught off guard, she was incredibly supportive of her son, wouldn’t give in to share any sordid details, and said at one point, “I won’t speak for him, but...”.
In a touching moment, he says, “He’s adopted, isn’t he” and she replies with something like, “why yes, I think so”.
She also made a supporting message to all families dealing with struggling children.
Larry King looked like an ass.
There's no divorce in heaven because there aren't any lawyers there. Something to wonder is if you can find a preacher to get married there.
