LOS ANGELES - Marie Osmond said her 16-year-old son has entered a rehabilitation facility, but she didn't disclose the nature of his problem.
"My son, Michael, is an amazing young man, shown through his courage in facing his issues. As his mother I couldn't be more proud of him," the 48-year-old singer said in a statement issued Wednesday through her publicist, Marleah Leslie.
"The press and public have always been kind and gracious in the past and I know they will continue to respect our privacy during this time," Osmond said.
The statement was first reported by TV show "Entertainment Tonight."
Osmond has eight children. She announced earlier this year that she and her second husband, Brian Blosil, are divorcing.
She has been appearing on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars." She missed last week's show after her father, George Osmond, patriarch to her and her singing brothers, died at his home in Provo, Utah. He was 90.
She had survived the cut this week and remains a contestant on the dance competition.
Osmond fainted on stage following a samba during a live broadcast of the show last month. She quickly recovered and was well enough to continue.
"Once in a while that happens to me when I get winded," she has explained.
Osmond gained fame at 13 with the hit song "Paper Roses." She starred with her brother Donny on television's "Donny and Marie Show" during the 1970s.
Her brothers Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay made their TV debut in 1962. Over the years, the Osmond Brothers singing group has also included her brothers Donny and Jimmy.
What a hottie!
I still think shes hot.
That makes two of us. I just watched the entire Leno rerun last night where she and Bradshaw were on, just to see her again.
Yeah, the kid has a big moral problem he needs to deal with, and his mom glossed it over in her public statement.
I bet your kids are perfect and never got involved in things they shouldn't.
And since you aren't famous, even if they did, you'd never be put in the position of having to make a public statement about them and what they did.
So life is just hunky dory for you. Ain't it grand?
Prayers for her son’s recovery.
Great minds think alike...
God bless Marie and her son. She’s had a tough year. I hope her son gets and stays sober - it’s tough on someone so young to actually attempt this.
Oh, I don't know, I think she could possibly manage to be prouder of him. I don't think that any situation that necessitated rehab is an occasion for pride, and I would definitely not feel pride if either of my children had to go into rehab for any reason.
Sorry, I just hate this common formulation that there is something noble and wonderful about people who are in rehab. It's a lot more noble and wonderful to go through your life without getting involved in whatever made you have to go to rehab in the first place, and most adults and kids are able to conduct their lives without requiring it.
I wonder if she’s had “work” done.
Why you clicked onto the link to begin with, doubtless.
That failure for a person to control his urges and give in to an addiction impacts almost all families, even those that are viewed by the larger community as the most respectable families.
The Kennedy Family, the Osmond Family, the Bush Family and the Limbaugh Family and most likely the family of most people that read this post.
The answer lies in self control. Teaching our children and teaching ourselves that simply because you want to, you do not have to take that sip, take that toke, take that snort, take that needle or take that crack pipe in your hand.
I’ve had a crush since her show.
Marie Osmond, ‘hot’ or not, is a nutcase.

It’s time to send that lady some real roses.
I do hope her son gets better soon.
Amy got boo’d at her concert last night and many in the audience left—just before she dropped the mike and walked off stage.
Snicker...
