Resident Shoots Chicago Postal Worker for Allegedly Delivering the Mail Too Late

CHICAGO
A postal worker in Chicago was shot in the leg late Tuesday after a resident along his postal route allegedly became angry that he was delivering the mail too late.
Police said Denny Robinson, 31, was delivering mail around 6:30 p.m. in Chicago's West Pullman neighborhood when he was shot in the thigh. Robinson was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment for the non-life-threatening injury.
Authorities said witnesses reported hearing a person yelling the postal worker was delivering the mail too late and then heard a shot.
Police News Affairs Officer Tom Polick said nobody could say where the shot came from.
Wanda Shipp of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service said Robinson was delivering mail after the normal 5 p.m. quitting time because Monday was holiday, and volume was heavier than normal.

This is what you call an Italian incentive program. Poorly performing postal people get kneecapped. Great incentive!!
I am an admitted layman in the field of postal engineering, but I would guess that the issue here is that there is twice as much sorting to be done - the number of recipients hasn't doubled nor has the physical area of the delivery route doubled.
Since NONE of the people getting delivery paid for it
None of them are taxpayers at all?

I'd suggest that after a letter carrier gets shot on his route that all the people on that route, and in nearby areas, have delivery service withdrawn until the problem can be sorted out.
I'm not sure why a lunatic's neighbors should be punished for the lunatic's actions.
I'm sure he was being paid overtime.
Instead of a thank-you he gets shot.
Actually, I would guess that comparatively few citizens remember to thank their mailman.
I wonder if I can get the deposit back that I placed on the new car...
What earthly difference does it make what time of day one gets one’s mail. Somebody needs to get a life.
The shooter was probably upset that his government welfare check was late and he need to buy some crack hours ago.

But, but, but, but...how could anyone be shot in Chicago? That city has among the strictest gun control laws in the nation, just ask Mayor Dick (Turd) Daley.

Amen to that. People here need to get hit in the head with a 2x4 if they think that even being nasty at a late mail delivery on the first day after a holiday is justifiable, let alone having the mailman shot. Its not like the guy came around at 1 AM and it was thought that he was a burglar. COME ON!.
I once got an offer from Reader’s digest to get a book for ten cents, and it featured a cheque in that amount- the hook was that you get it for a dime and they pay for it- just endorse the cheque and mail it back. I cashed it.
Sometimes they switch our mailpeople. We had one that just couldn’t seem to deliver the mail for a solid month. That’s how long it took for the US Post Office to do anything about it; if they did at all. All we got that entire month was junk mail. I had a great time explaining to the bill collectors why my bills had not been paid. LOL
I wonder what this guy would have done if he hadn’t have gotten his mail for a month.

It is? Why? I don’t see what the big deal is?
If I receive a credit card statement or other bill that is erroneous and I don't get it until 6:30 PM, quite frequently the creditor's business hours will already be over by 6:30 PM and I will need to wait an extra day to rectify the situation.
How much tax money do you think the Postal Service gets - more or less than UPS or FedEx?
About a half-billion net, I believe.
While it simply isn't relevant - since neither FedEx nor UPS have any legal obligation to provide service under Federal law, unlike the USPS - what are the numbers you are claiming for FedEx and UPS?
