The E8 pattern (left), Garrett Lisi surfing (middle) and out of the water (right)
Garrett Lisi, 39, has a doctorate but no university affiliation and spends most of the year surfing in Hawaii, where he has also been a hiking guide and bridge builder (when he slept in a jungle yurt).
In winter, he heads to the mountains near Lake Tahoe, Nevada, where he snowboards. "Being poor sucks," Lisi says. "It's hard to figure out the secrets of the universe when you're trying to figure out where you and your girlfriend are going to sleep next month."

Maybe if I win the lottery,.........
When I do, I’ll get back to you and you can rest easy then.
Until then,..... talk amongst yourselves.
You’re welcome.
Somehow 42 comes to mind...I need the whole article. This is cool find, thanks.
“Somehow 42 comes to mind...”
That’s because you know where your towel is.
The jerk is just trying to one-up OLTG's Theory of Almost Everything
get a job, moron. the universe can go on without you.
Not only has this guy possibly figured out the universe, but he has invented a new language, because I didn’t understand a damn thing any of those people were talking about in that article.
That E8 pattern is totally tubular. Dude’s radical, yet simple TOE could spark a gnarly paradigm shift.
WORK!!!
This is BS. You don’t find the answer to the universe in some obscure mathematical pastime.
The answer is 42
“My brain exploded with the implications and the beauty of the thing,” he tells New Scientist. “I thought: ‘Holy crap, that’s it!’”
Dick Feynman would have had a beer with this guy.
“Surf?....no I play bongos”
It goes way over my head, unfortunately. I can't picture 8 dimensions in my mind, vectors, 57?
I read through it anyway. The first thing I thought of when I saw the colorful diagram was a fractal. Now I have generated a lot of fractals, have a couple 100 or more in my files somewhere, and while they may contain what appears to be some symmetrical object, the entire fractal images I've generated seem to be assymetrical, infinite spirals are one characteristic but not the only one.
E. Michael Jones suggested in an article several years ago that God could have created the universe in fractals. So if Lisi is correct, that shoots that theory. The former does not presume to have advanced scientific knowledge.
I wish I could understand this, the same thing happened when I tackled Hawkins' "History of Time", just too advanced for me, even though it wasn't a very long book.
My own theory is that there was no big bang, but rather the universe is simply an oscillating sphere. If you’re *really* fast then once every couple of trillion years you can wave quickly at everyone as they pass by, moving in the opposite direction.
