I DON'T WANT A FIRE IN THE BELLY!!
So what if Fred Thompson isn't every where at every moment.
Who cares that being the US President hasn't been his lifelong dream?
So he isn't doing back flips or some other idiotic stunt to get attention.
Where has that gotten us before?
Well.... Bill Clinton has the fire since he was a little boy. We all know how that turned out.
Saddam, Chavez, Quadafy, and even Hitler were brimming with Belly Fire.
I want a man who will keep my country safe, who will have a responsible stewardship of the economy, and protect the Constitution and States Rights.
I want a Statesman. I want a leader. I don't want someone who has to be all things to all people.
We all know the fable of the tortoise and the hare. Well I want a tortoise. I want slow and steady.
I don't want Las Vegas in the White House. We had enough of that garbage in the 90s. Give me a man who stands by his word and can stand up to Nasty Nancy and Harry Reid and the rest of the nutjobs who think that they can run a war better than the generals.
Ok, that's enough for now. I am not a good writer and not very eloquent but I think that I have common sense.

Very true, and important. I should have substituted removal from office for impeachment. Removal of Clinton would have gotten us Gore for 9-11.

Sorry, but voting for the lesser of two evils just doesn't cut it any more. Conservatives are pretty well fed up with the garbage the republicans have presented the voters in the last few elections. First the Reagan Democrats dropped their support of republican candidates...expect the same of conservatives if the party keeps putting up RINOs. REMEMBER...A VOTE FOR A RINO IS A VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT.

I was sure that’s what you meant.

Post 49 has the full committee report - really incredible stuff. Read what the Senators who voted not to convict say at the end!
Here's another link to more recent comments by Fred that gives you the quick answer - he did vote to convict on the obstruction charge (and we only needed one) but didn't feel the perjury charge fit the Founders definition of impeachable:
On Bill Clinton's impeachment, Hannity asked: Why did you vote against conviction? From Thompson: I split my vote according to what I believed to be my duty. I voted to convict on obstruction of justice, and not to convict on charges of perjury. I went back to the Founder's intent and believe they did not consider this an impeachable offense.

I agree. I’m for a Polkian president for a change. Get in, fix a lot of things, seek no second term.

Well done, Miss Hayworth!

Clinton’s fire isn’t in his belly. It’s a little lower.

But I think the point about Fred is that many perceive him not to have "fire in his belly" ideologically. I think we saw that (magnified) in WJC and are seeing it now in Bush--no ideological underpinnings at all. Promoting, taking the country back to its Federalism roots isn't an ideological underpinning?
So believing in and supporting the Constitution doesn't count either?
Fred is skrewed.
It's not that he doesn't have any ideological underpinnings; its just that, apparently, no one believes in, or doesn't care about them anymore?

You've got it exactly backwards--some people DO care, and they don't think Fred much cares. I don't have an opinion on Fred one way or the other, so your argument isn't with me. I was giving the perception.
But you (inadvertently) restated the argument, that he stands for those things. I maintain that the perception is that he doesn't have the "fire in the belly."

You've got it exactly backwards--some people DO care, and they don't think Fred much cares. Well, as one who does care, and who understands those foundations, I see Fred as the ONLY candidate out there actually talking about them. That's why I support him.
So if there are others out there that care about getting back to our Constitutional roots, but don't believe Fred does, they haven't been paying much attention. Because he's made it perfectly clear to me.
