In seven months of secret debriefings, Saddam Hussein admitted that he faked having weapons of mass destruction but planned on developing a weapons of mass destruction program with nuclear capability within a year.
Saddam made the admissions in videotaped interviews with George L. Piro, an FBI agent who was assigned by the FBI with the CIAs approval to try to develop his cooperation.
For my book "The Terrorist Watch: Inside the Desperate Race to the Next Attack" being published this week Piro described the debriefings, which have never been previously revealed. [To get Ronald Kessler's new book, go here now.]

It was another, but not tragic, case of premature jihadsulation..
They make a pill for that now-a-days don’t they?
bttt
I'm suspecting that liberal Google may even be "shading" history! I was interested enough to do a Google search on Saddam gassing the Kurds, and find most stories on the first page have a very dubious slant on this, most implying that Iran may have been responsible!!
Lol, sky-gazing, the WMDs flew away! I really like your “frame”!!
It was developed for TROP’s electile dysfunction..
The Dems security reasons could quickly turn into serious “election credibility issues” once the voters discover they have been repeatedly lied to by those which relish power over national security.
Libya was not involved in this event and has been out of the picture in recent times - but still not on our side - despite “coming in from the cold” and stopping WMD manufacture and development.
Generally agree with the rest of your assessment
Agree. What makes no sense... not that much about Saddam ever did.. is for Saddam to admit fear of Iran and yet deny WMD's. The Soviets/Russians source of Iran's nuclear and buyer of the majority of Saddam's oil contracts, have been and still are hip deep in Iran and were in Iraq, yet again they seem to quietly slip in to the fog of what ever gets reported. I have to wonder exactly what they are up to now and why the Soviets/Russians did not calm Saddam's terrifying fear of Iran.
The fear of Iran certainly subsided after Saddam's capture because he was all about a call to any arms to stop US and he knew darn well that Iran was doing its part in that battle.
Mornin’ FARS,
I agree that Libya is not on our side, YET. It’s very telling that Ayman al Zwahiri is calling for Qaddafi’s head in one of his latest audio tapes! al Zwahiri must have realized the loss of potential nukes and/or dirty bombs and cash that he could have gotten from Qaddafi!
al Qaeda is known for shooting themselves in the foot (9/11, slaughtering Iraqi civilians and baking children especially of the Sunni denomination, etc.) that led lately to their all-out defeat in Iraq.
I wouldn’t be surprised when al Qaeda gets Qaddafi angry and scared enough to join the anti-terrorism effort. That will make him a de facto US ally.
Qaddafi is very ill and wants his son to survive and succeed him. Thus has thrown in with us and hopes this will help out. His political opponents are not pro-West, so we are les likely to give them our vote.
Also, Qaddafi was not, at his worst, the type to bake children and feed gthem to their parents, as happened by Al Qaeda in Iraq. Killing a planeload of people was fair game but he did not display a public sadistic streak though rumors abounded about his participation in torture.
Water under the bridge.
As you say, let’s wait and see what transpires.
cheers,
Why is/would the Bush administration keeping all this a secret? Especially, about Saddam’s WMD exploits, pre March 2003?
I think he is choosing his battles and not getting embroiled in “old” matters when he has Iraq, IraN and Pakistan on his plate. so why argue with the Media and Dims over something that if need be can be suddenly presented at any time. After even more pertinent documents have been discovered and translated. there are “shelf-miles” of them still untouched and unviewed and untranslated.
Also with the surge working his arguments will fall on more ready ears.
My view, not necesarily the correct answer. Probably there are several factors intertwined.
Sorry it took so long to get back to you.

Have a great weekend.
Spetsnaz to Bekka makes a good story and Sada had a book to sell. The airliners at Baghdad airport would have been tested at Baghdad for any residual chemicals. Notice that Sada refused to name the pilots of those flights? Until he names them and they confirm the flights were transporting WMD then it remains firmly speculation.
Flights of Iraqi airliners were noted going to Syria to provide assistance after a dam broke. Iraq provided aid to Syria during this period. Sada could simply be riding his book on the back of those flights and the unamed aircrew.
Sada said they used the breaking of the dam as cover for explaining the “assistance” from Iraq.
Dams can be broken for convenience, it doesn’t take an act of God.
