UFOs may be fodder for comedians and science fiction but there was no joking Monday when a group of pilots and officials demanded the US government reopen an investigation into unidentified flying objects.
The 19 former pilots and government officials, who say they have seen UFOs themselves or been involved in probes of strange flying objects, told reporters their questions can no longer be dismissed more than 30 years after the US case was closed.
"We want the US government to stop perpetuating the myth that all UFOs can be explained away in down-to-earth, conventional terms," said Fife Symington, former governor of Arizona and air force pilot who says he saw a UFO himself in 1997.
"Instead our country needs to reopen its official investigation that it shut down in 1969," Symington told a news conference.
Symington read an appeal on behalf of the group of who came to Washington to recount their sightings of UFOs.
"We believe that for reasons of both national security and flight safety, every country should make an effort to identify any object in its airspace," the statement said.
The group included a retired pilot from Air France who said he saw an enormous flying disc during a flight from Nice to London in 1994, an Iranian pilot who tried in vain to fire on a UFO in 1976 and a former US official from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) who claims a probe into a UFO seen over Alaska in 1987 was squelched.
"'Who believes in UFOs?' is the kind of attitude of the FAA all the time," Symington said.
"However, when I asked the CIA person: 'What do you think it was,' he responded 'a UFO.'"
When Symington suggested the government tell Americans about a UFO, the CIA official allegedly told him: "'No way, if we were to tell the American public there are UFOs they would panic.'"
The subject of UFOs came up in a recent debate among presidential candidates, with Democrat Dennis Kucinich saying he saw a UFO.
Skeptics say UFO sightings are merely aircraft or meteors re-entering the Earth's atmosphere.

member . . . I SAW A UFO [in Alaska]
http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread318271/pg1
I just saw a UFO!!!! I was driving home with my boyfriend and daughter around 10:22pm Alaska time. We were about 1 1/2 miles from my home. Clear skies, beautiful starry night, and Out of nowhere toward the mountains, two lights appear. At first I thought it was a plane so did my boyfriend but then the lights did not appear normal color at all. They were orange. You have to understand, I have 30 hours of flight time, just short of soloing and getting my license, so I know my plane lights. Anyway, I grab my digital binocular camera and what I saw was freaky! There were green lights underneath the object, the surface of the object on the bottom was a dark blackish color. The object was the shape of a Hexagon. I got a pretty good look with the binoculars. It was moving at a steady pace and then it was just gone off in the distance towards Anchorage into the clouds. I am freaked! I have only seen one other UFO out here about 2 years ago and it was not like that....I want to know if anyone in my area saw this...
PS I took a photo with the binoculars, trying to get it downloaded and see if it showed up. I doubt it, my binocular camera does not do good night photos...will post if it showed up

PHOTOGRAPHS OF USS ELDERIDGE DISAPPEARING? Are they real?
http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread317425/pg1
In June 1943, before it was officially commissioned, the USS Eldridge, DE (Destroyer Escort)-173 was being fitted with tons of experimental electronics equipment. This included two massive generators of 74KVA each, mounted where the forward turret would have been, distributing their power through four magnetic coils mounted on deck. Three RF transmitters (2 magnetic CW each mounted on deck), three thousand 6L6 power amplifier tubes (used to drive the field coils of the two generators), special synchronizing and modulation circuits, and a host of other specialized hardware were employed to generate a massive electromagnetic field which, when properly configured would be able to bend light and radio waves around the ship, thus making it invisible to enemy observers.
The experiment took place at the Philadelphia Naval yards and also at sea. At 0900 hours o July 22nd, 1943 the power to the generators were turned on and the massive electromagnetic field was build up around the ship. A green fog was seen to slowly envelop the ship, concealing it from view. Then the fog it self disappeared, taking the Eldridge with it, leaving only undisturbed water where the ship had been anchored only a few minutes before. To the amazement of the elite officers of the navy, the ship and the crew were not only radar invisible but invisible to the eye as well. After fifteen minutes the generators were shutdown, the greenish fog reappeared and the Eldridge began to dematerialize.
The final test was conducted on the 28th of October 1943 at 17:15. As the electromagnetic field generators were turned on again, the Eldridge became invisible - only a faint outline of the hull remained visible in the water. Everything went as predicted for a few seconds, and then in a blinding flash the ship completely vanished. Within seconds it reappeared miles away in Norfolk, Virginia and was seen for several minutes. Then the Eldridge disappeared from Norfolk and reappeared back in Philadelphias naval yard. This time most of the men were violently sick, while some of them were simply missing never to return. But the strangest of all were five men who were fused to the metal in the ships structures.

“alien base photographed by Japanese moon probe?”
No. Just a bunch of unremarkable craters. But hey, about 40 years ago, in one of those cool men’s adventure pulps (”True” or “Argosy” I’m pretty sure) a surface photo of the lunar far side, taken by a Soviet satellite (first to get there) showed what was described as three or four obelisks from a straight-above perspective. Pretty sure they weren’t. The movie “2001” came out right about then, whadda coincidence.

“Water fuelled cars have been mentioned in urban legends since the 1930s. The story is usually that a lone inventor invents an engine that runs on water but the idea is suppressed by either Big Oil or automakers in order to safeguard their profits. Claims for water fuelled power sources are often used to fraudulently extract money from gullible investors.”

Anatomy of a Hoax: The Philadelphia Experiment 50 Years Later
By Jacques F. Vallee
http://educate-yourself.org/ab/JSEphilexpSpring94by vallee.shtml
From the Journal of Scientific Exploration, Volume 8, Number 1, Spring, 1994 http://www.scientificexploration.org/jse/abstracts/v8n1a2.php
[snip] We were trying to make our ships invisible to magnetic torpedoes, by de-Gaussing them. We had regular radar and also a “micro-radar” of lower frequency. They could detect submarines as soon as they raised their periscopes or came up for air. We could pick them up in the dark or in fog as far as one or two miles away. That’s when the Germans began to lose their U-boats... The Eldridge and the Engstrom were in the harbor together,” he answered. “In fact four ships were outfitted at the same time: the 48, 49, 50 and the Eldridge, in June and July of 1943. The Navy used to de-Gauss all the ships in dry dock, even the merchant ships, otherwise the vessels acted as bar magnets which attracted the magnetic torpedoes.” [end]
Ahhhh welll . . . I guess someone has to have the duty to take the fun out of some fantastical stories!
LOL.
Thanks thanks.
:’) yeah, just tryin’ to help. ;’)
I figure none of us common folks have sufficient solid info to filter the disinformation out from the facts . . .
and . . .
as stories, many of them are entertaining.
Besides . . . in brain storming, even crazy, off the wall ideas can trigger solid ideas.
I figure in such ball parks as these fantastical stories are in . . .
who knows when some solid puzzle pieces will tumble out of crazy stories.
The poor kitty cat does not look happy. Poor kitty.
I certainly consider the above true or largely true.
***Then what is the harm in discussing the differences? Is it more likely that aliens traversed the galaxy with superduper technology that would be thousands of years ahead of our own, only to crash in 1947 in Roswell or is it more likely that a military experiment crashed near a military base and was covered up by military personnel?
Not necessarily either.
And, I do not think
that even Vesco
necessarily had SUFFICIENT percentages of info; of a vision of the whole; of sufficient perspective . . .
to make the conclusions he seems to have reached
so emphatic.
And your degree of adament certainty is also mind bogglingly fierce given what has to be great gaping wholes in the data.
Also, perspectives which seem to be overly . . . rushed to certainty . . .
AND
overly rushed to overweening haughtiness, smug arrogance . . .
are more than a little off-putting.
They don’t tend to entertain me.
They don’t tend to attract me.
They don’t tend to generate great examples of my typical patience.
They don’t tend to amuse me.
They don’t tend to intrigue me very significantly.
You seem convinced that you have a collection of air-tight tidy little boxes.
And virtually every one of your posts . . . at least 95+% of them seem to me, to be speaking from a perspective that is not only seriously flawed from my perspective but also rife with not a shred of insight nor any hint of any future openness to any insight which might indicate any crack in the fiercely convinced edifice that there are no flaws in the perspective.
Given that, I really don’t care to discuss much of anything from such an attitude and such a perspective.
Nevertheless, in answer yet again to your question . . .
No.
I don’t see it that way at all.
There are more possibilities. And given the hard concrete certainty attitude of the man only perspective as demonstrated in your posts . . . I can’t imagine that
any
discussion with much of any aspect of such would have more than a gnat’s fart’s worth of interest or fun for me.
I don’t know that I’ve been crystal clear.
But perhaps one can get the drift.
I’ve had some recent coworkers of fairly reputable, non-emotional natures, confide to a couple of others that they witnessed one here recently. Hearsay is that about 5 saw it. Apparently it seemed cloaked/camouflaged/invisible in the sky except for adjacent light bending around it. Sort of like Predator in the the Schwarzenegger movie. The craft also moved in jerks across the sky, about the size of a large helicopter over a SW US military base not known for classified air ops. Reportedly observed during daylight hours.
Do you recall any studies on aircraft transportation which moves in a ‘jerky’ fashion, like quantum time steps, but the entire craft displaces a vehicle length in those quanta, rather than continuous motion?
i DON’T recall the refs at all . . .
but it seems to me that there are lots of reports of
jerky transits across the sky
as well as
falling leaf sorts of flight characteristics.
The cloaking also sounds somewhat famiiliar.
And, the size sounds familiar.
I wonder what the feelings in the folks intuitive parts were during the sighting.
Or if believers . . . what their discernment was in their spirits.
Thanks.
