A hard lesson was learned on election day in New Jersey's 12th legislative district, when incumbent State Senator Ellen Karcher (D-12) and incumbent Assemblyman Mike Panter (D-12) were retired from public service despite the infusion of millions of campaign dollars to save their seats.
That lesson can be summed up this way: don't mess with the sportsmen.
There are well over a million hunters, anglers, and responsible gun owners in New Jersey. For the most part, they keep to themselves, content to exercise their rights, freedoms and chosen activities without interference. But when aroused to action by over-the-top legislation that threatens to interfere, they can become a force of nature at the polls.
And that's exactly what happened in the 12th district on November 6. Fed up with overzealous legislative attacks, sportsmen and sportswomen turned out in force to register their disapproval with the flip of a voting lever. And register their disapproval they did...

Need to hang Ellen’s pelt up on the lodge wall.
We should do this with every anti-gun legislator around the country, at every level.
If it can happen in NJ, it can happen ANYWHERE.
Agree. I hope it’s noted that none of the Dem candidates are talking it up about gun control. However, don’t be mislead by their silence on this issue. They are just hiding and waiting for the opportunity. If Hillary or Obama should become Prez, rest assured that they will attempt to eliminate private ownership of firearms.

Way to go... Stand up!
Did you see the comments below where the defenders of Ellen claimed she was swiftboated???
Swiftboated = “Telling the truth about someones positions or activites during an election cycle and the following applies: Democat = true and (positions = damaging Or activites = damaging)
I am just a little more modern.
Powder..patch..ball..cap...fire!
Hell, my .50 flintlock is the smallest (.490 RB) rifle I would care to use on deer. I like the .54 (.530/.527RB) a lot. Don’t sneeze at the .58 (.562 RB) either—but I’m building a nice .62 (.610 RB) for the big stuff.
Funny that they want to ban the EFFECTIVE stuff.
It takes time and money. Especially money to get the word out. And you have lazy do-nothing Freepers complaining they have to make a trip to the trash can because of the NRA mailers.
This is a special thanks to all the NRA volunteers who worked countless hours to have a 89% success rate.

Join the NRA.
A bit late, but welcome to the party, sportsmen. Now, stick around, stay awake, and remember that gun rights are not about hunting and sports.
Powder..Patch..Ball FIRE!
I have flint and percussion, enjoy them all... largest is a 1902 African trade musket (flintlock made in Belgium) that is a 66 caliber smoothbore.. Kinda sounds like a lion clearing its throat when it lites off...
That's better.
Scott has been absolutely indefatigable on these issues. When the gun-grabbers (and NJ is full of 'em) start their nonsense, Scott is on the phone, writing editorials, giving interviews, etc. ANJRPC sent out multiple postcard reminders before the election, reminding voters exactly what was at stake if they didn't vote.
The election results held a lot of surprises for NJ voters -- and, in a departure from the norm, they were positive surprises! FReepers, gun owners, pro-lifers, red-state people who are captives in blue states.... let's keep up the momentum, heading into next year's elections.
The fact that the NRA only has about 4 million members in a Country with around 60 million firearms owners is a sad commentary. If just a third of gunowners would get involved just enough to spend 35 dollars a year there would be NO gun control in this country. I maddens me. The left has one thing the middle and right does not have——the theology of activism and never giving ground.
What is even more pathetic is the reason some of these gun owners won’t join the NRA. They don’t like getting off of their Lazy-boys in order to throw out a NRA mailer.
That’s pathetic.
Had a .75 caliber Brown Bess replica for a while, but my Bro-in-law bought it from me. At least it’s still in the family. Darn thing is heavy, must be at least 10 lbs. Not very accurate, but impressive.
“Join the NRA.”
Well Shooter 2.5, a suggestion that I embrace. I have been an NRA member for almost 40 years....
